Places And People For Mecha Galaxy

The Kingdom of New Zion

Less of a real Kingdom, New Zion started out as an enclave from an old colony ship thought to be lost, but which has only recently arrived.

Before the discovery of the gates, at the cusp of the 3rd World War in the early 21st century, many rich Jewish moguls decided it was time to seek out a new promised land. They started building a generational colony ship that would take a select community across the void to the closest star known to have a planet, Alpha Centauri.

Though started in secret, it was hard to hide. Radical groups that thought to destroy it were thwarted, or they only did marginal damage, slowing the project. Bureaucratic red tape also slowed it down as various international interests tried to get in on the project.

The ship was eventually completed. It was staffed by people wearing many different flags. However, with only a small handful of exceptions, all the people on the ship were hereditary Jews who practiced the traditions. This was true even of the few African Nationals. A cleverly designed selection process that appeared to be open made the elect crew possible, with only a few Asians not quite fitting the bill but still getting on.

Dubbed the Ark from tradition and due to its purpose, the ship launched. It was in steady contact as it left the solar system up until the break out of World War. Once conflict got heated, Earth fell silent. The survivors of war forgot about the errant ship in the struggling years of survival to come.

Over a thousand years later, the ship arrived at its destination. To the crew's surprise, they found they weren't alone. Alpha Centauri was a thriving world of human activity, and a major hub in the gate network.

Rabbinical scholars joked about the prophetical curse: 'the first shall be last and the last shall be first', claiming yet again the gentile got to the new promised land before the chosen people.

With help from the locals, the lost colony found a nice out-of-the way spot to set up their new Kingdom, and get caught up on the last one thousand years. In the last decade, the enclave has grown into a prosperous city. Having to fend off attacks by the more violently curious, they have quickly adapted to existing Mecha Technology.

David Starr - Champion of Zion

David hails from a matrilineal line of Jews, his family name obviously European. He is one of the few able to interface with a Mech. As the current reigning champion, he leads the small but determined team of defenders for the Kingdom.
