It’s 7:58am and Woody notices two of the older crew members exchanging something. One of them says ‘Pay up bud.’ Just then they hear a click and some frantic panting coming from the hall. It’s the girls. Just as they move into the line the work horn goes off. After the morning greeting from the Commander, the crews are off to their work stations. “Hey girls … Glad you made it. How are you two feeling?” Woody asks. “Rough morning and we’ve got wicked hangovers. Let’s just try to make it through the day so we can get some sleep,” Kalli replies after giving out the workloads. Woody’s really glad that all they have today is general maintenance. The hours drag on and as the work day comes to an end, the horn sounds and the girls walk with the boys out to the E.Bs. Kalli finally breaks the silence. “Thanks guys … we had a great time last night but we’re just heading home to catch up on some sleep. We’ll talk soon ok?” she says as they drive off. As Woody gets into his E.B, he looks around for Woodman.
He laughs as he spies him sleeping in the backseat. ‘WOW…what a day. At least it’s over.’ Woody thinks to himself as he drives back to their hanger. As he pulls up, he notices a pilot standing at their door. Woody parks and as he gets out of the vehicle he yells, “Wake up Woodman!” “What?...What!? … ok ok, I’m awake.” Woodman replies groggily. He shakes his head trying to fully come back to reality. Woody walks up to the pilot, “Can I help you ?” he asks. “Why yes. Are you Woody and Woodman of Clan Song?” the pilot asks. “Yes … what’s this all about?” Woody questions. “Just sign here for the parcel,” the pilot continues. Woody signs for it – ‘Must be a Mech part.’ He thinks as the pilot drives off. Woody and Woodman look at each other. “You’ve gotta be kidding me!” Woody says. “Let’s go in and check it out,” Woodman offers. The boys sit on the couch and open the envelope. Woody starts reading aloud:
To the thieves Woody and Woodman:
I, Toobar and my brother Makar, challenge you - A combat to the death. This includes your positions in Clan Song. We were promised these positions and have been waiting two years – We WILL NOT be insulted by you stealing our positions. To prove to Clan Song that we are the best, we will destroy you and take what is rightfully ours. Since we are the challengers, you may choose your field of battle. You cannot refuse as we have made this challenge public though the net. We look forward to facing you. You have one day to reply.
“What the hell?...” Woody says. “Wow … That was fast. Only our second day and someone wants us dead. This is serious.” Woodman replies. “What are we going to do? … My Mech isn’t even together yet.” Woody mumbles as he scratches his head. “We should be able to get it back together tonight,” Woodman says. “In the meantime, lets order in some food and get to it - Can’t think on an empty stomach now can we?” Once the food arrives, the boys quickly get to work and by the time they’ re finished it’s well after midnight. “Well, let’s call it a night. At least the Mechs are all together,” Woody says. Woodman pipes up, “Yeah, tomorrow we need to see our manager and the Commander.” “Yeah … but we REALLY need some sleep. I’m heading to bed. See you in the morning,” Woody says with a yawn. No sooner than their heads hit the pillow they’re both fast asleep.
