Equipment Review Comparison of the Plasma Core Vs. the Grizzly Engine Vs. the Dark Matter Converter by Robert Clay #726411

The Plasma Core is a new Crystal engine to the market this year. It is designed for mechs in the 90 to 95 ton range. It has a Speed component, an Auto Repair component, and two Vulnerable components. The Plasma Core is priced at 1725 Ferrites, 1542 Bioptics, and 73 Crystals.

The Grizzly Engine has been a mainstay Crystal engine in the market for the last few years. It is designed for mechs in the 80 to 90 ton range. It has a Speed component, an Auto Repair component, a Damage component, and a Vulnerable component. The Grizzly Engine is priced at 1389 Ferrites, 1068 Bioptics, and 56 Crystals.

The Dark Matter Converter is a Niode engine that has also been a mainstay in the market for the last few years. It is designed for mechs in the 80 to 90 ton range. It has a Speed component, an Auto Repair component, a Damage component, and a Vulnerable component. The Dark Matter Converter is priced at 1193 Ferrites, 387 Bioptics, and 52 Niodes.

The Grizzly Engine has a Speed component that increases the Speed of every weapon on a mech by 2 points. The Speed component on the Plasma Core increases the Speed of every weapon by 4 points. The Grizzly Engine has an Auto Repair component that repairs 1 point of damage per cycle. The Auto Repair component on the Plasma Core repairs 3 points of damage per cycle. The Grizzly Engine increases Projectile damage by 4%, the Plasma Core does not. The Grizzly Engine opens its mech up to a 5% vulnerability to Opponent’s Projectile weapons. The Plasma Core opens its mech up to a 30% vulnerability to Opponent’s Fire weapons and a 5% vulnerability to Opponent’s Laser weapons.

With these comparisons in mind there can be an argument made for the safety of the mech using the Grizzly Engine. A counterargument can be made for the increased Auto Repair of the Plasma Core. A further argument can be made for the greater increase of weapon Speed in the Plasma Core. Even with the two vulnerabilities of the Plasma Core it proves to be a better Crystal engine then the Grizzly Engine.

The Dark Matter Converter has a Speed component that increases the Speed of every weapon on a mech by 5 points. It also has an Auto Repair component that repairs 3 points of damage per cycle. The Dark Matter Converter opens its mech up to a 4% vulnerability to Opponent’s Fire weapons. The Dark Matter Converter also has a 3X Damage component with 3% damage.

Hands down the Niode Dark Matter Converter, when compared to the Crystal Plasma Core, is the best engine for mechs in the 80 to 90 ton range. For the 95 ton mechs there is another engine to look at. But, that is another comparison for another day.
