Anzu – Worth a second glance.
We’ve all piloted them, these 15 ton lightweights that seemed so powerful when we were greenhorns. But most of us left them behind long ago. Why?
Let’s look at the advantages. It’s a cheap mech to run, costing only ferrite and bioptics. You can get a full equipment load without using crystals as well. With the amount of engine slots it receives coupled with it’s in built speed enhancement it is one of the fastest mechs in the galaxy, so for its weight bracket you can be almost assured of getting off the first shot.
Which leads us to the big drawback. That one shot is probably all you can count on, because the cumulative kickback (45% for 85% damage) that is inherent on this chassis will shut you down before you get to fire twice. That’s probably why we all left them behind and never looked back.
So apart from the new up and coming pilots, does the Anzu have a place on the battlefield in today’s universe of Heavy and BFM mecha? Yes… yes, it does.
In the specialist category of 20 ton mech, the Anzu faces 3 opponents. It is better armored and faster than the Red Ant. It is cheaper and faster by a long way compared to the crystal based Shocklite missile mech, and is an alternative that anyone can afford when you compare it to the excruciatingly expensive Axebot. In fact it’s that cost that is its biggest... well… selling point. If you don’t want to use crystal for a massively underutilized formation, fill it with Anzus.
Or if not fill the formation, at least have a line out front armed with crit-kill weapons to break up that unexpected Axebot formation. If you only have one shot, make it your best… because in an Anzu, you know it will be the fastest.
