Regis Build by David McCallum #701548

You know how you go into a raid or a boss fight, and the way your luck is running, you are resigned to just getting the guaranteed items?

And sometimes, just on occasion, against all expectations you come away with something really really nice?

I had that in real life yesterday.

We have a local recycling store. they take a lot of old scrap, junk, off-cuts, manufacturing waste etc., and they break it down and categorize it for craft use. Its very popular for schools, cosplayers, modelers and the like. Anyone and everyone who is into crafts... its brilliant.

So we were headed down to have a rummage around for the youngest's school science project, and he was going to be making a model of a power generator. Cool, I get to scavenge techy parts, and as you know I'm not averse to the odd bit of modelling myself. Got to be lots of bits and pieces to make stuff myself, and I was of a mind to do a quick project, maybe some sci-fi terrain.

All I can say is that the raccoon gods were smiling, for in the reject toy section, I found what we would all consider to be the pinnacle of our raid haul.

Of course, I had to have it.

A quick scavenge of my bits box and I had managed to cobble together something that would pass for
the trademark shoulder weapon pods.

I love that first undercoat, because that's the point when it all comes together and the different parts blend into something that looked like it was meant to be a single model all along.

The only thing left is to make sure I use a factory standard colour scheme and there you have it... or rather I do, being the proud owner of a brand new Regis.

Tundris Fantasy Mecha Take Two By Pat Willis#224534

Recommended retail price.
22,000 Ferrite
18,000 Bioptics
135 Niodes.

The Tundris is a 100 Ton mecha designed by the Brotherhood and manufactured on Garhan station by the J&K Distribution team of Johnathan Judas and Kellek (The Niodemancer, and the Forerunner construct who thinks he is a Forerunner.)  It was virtually made to order given it is based on many improvement notes from the clans Ice specialists (Cryomancers) and advancements in larger mecha technologies.

At the heart of this mecha is a Frigis base so the skeletal system is still forged from multi layered Titanium interwoven with Ferronite, folded and refolded many times in the style of Old Earth Damascus steel. The main difference there is that it then gets an additional exoskeleton armor package to make up the difference and bring it up from the 80 Ton range into the 100 Ton range.

This upgrade package includes - state of the art reinforced ferrite weave for the cockpit, with extended multi directional sensors across the mecha to alert you to incoming danger from all directions. It is equipped with redundant niobium nerve bundles to give it a slight speed boost for so heavy a mecha. This also increases pilot to mecha reaction time in the heat of combat. The targeting system has been overhauled from the Frigis design to feature optical overlay pinpoint targeting as opposed to the more traditional H.U.D. system so common in other mechas.

At the heart of this upgrade is the Perpetual Singularity engine. There are four chambers deep within the Tundris core that create minuscule singularities in directional opposition from one another. Much like the Frigis and its reverse niode polarization burst. But this engine harnesses the intense energies of the singularities trying to feed off of each other and redirects them to where they are needed most.

The exterior of the mecha is a dense mixture of ferronite and mirrored ceramic overlay which allows it to absorb all but the most devastating of hits with barely a notice. Modifications exist within the armor add-on to pull more power from the mechas systems and divert them to weapons when needed. It has state of the art niobium actuators at the joints also allowing for better reaction time in so heavy a mecha.

The shoulder area of this mecha is much more pronounced than that of the Frigis. It houses triple cryogenic gas vents which super cool the atmosphere around the mecha, and drawing said air into the mecha itself. It adds these super cooled gases to its freeze mixture (affectionately called slush by its creators), to then be mixed with both chemical and liquid solutions inside the arm cannon housing. When the mixture is fired it works much like a projectile, but what is coming out is all absolute zero ordinance.

The arms of this mecha are much more blunted than its little brother the Frigis. This is so the arms when firing can build up more momentum to their ammo. The angled ends of the arms allow for a buildup and release of excessive gasses from the intake vents to be added for propulsion when fired allowing the shot to reach sonic velocity. This helps the Tundris to slow, and freeze most mechas without much more than a couple of shots. These weapon arms, as well as the shoulder vents use a great deal of power as there is so much going on with them at once it becomes obvious why the Perpetual Singularity Engine was chosen to power this beast.

Thesis Build by David McCallum #701548

Sometimes you win big.

Sometimes I might be the Niode Lottery, or it may be a 'Hail Mary' attack in a Clan War during overtime that gets you the win and the gold.

And sometimes its walking into the cheap shop and scoring a load of toy robots that you can use in your hobby. At 17 cents US a figure, they were an absolute steal.

The best part about it was that some of them were just crying out for a little minor modification to something we all recognise and love.

One in particular caught my eye, as it was so close to an Antithesis it was uncanny. The feet were a problem (the originals were like chicken feet), but I had a donor for them. A scavenge of spare parts netted me some better shoulder pads, and the wife kindly donated some pins with large heads for the main weaponry.

Just goes to show that all is fair in love, war and model conversion.

A quick hack and glue had the model ready to paint.

Now the thing I love about the 'Thesis is it's colour scheme; that matte black is so easy to do with a simple white undercoat and a black ink wash. The pins themselves would give the shiny silver of weapons that are powered and ready to fire.

The only deviation from the standard colour scheme was in the shoulder pads... this one has the Red and Gold to signify my command mech 'Wellington'.

Here's a hint Nick... probably the biggest pop you are going to get from the player community isn't going to be from gameplay or story lines. It's going to be the day when we can colour our mechs to our own personal or clan livery. Just saying.

But at the end of the day, a model is just a model until you send it to war...

Time to go out on patrol methinks.

Nerio Build by David McCallum #701548

As previously reported I had the misfortune of a visit by Sauron's Handmaiden (aka the Mother in Law) recently, and unfortunately for me, the only available bed was the one in the games room.

My games room.

This necessitated a certain amount of tidying up, and grudgingly I will admit it was a blessing in disguise as it unearthed a fair few projects I had ferreted away for future work.

Since its a long weekend over here, I got the time to actually get round to some of them.

One of the projects I unearthed was a few robots that I am relatively sure came free with fast food. I was originally going to use them as Knights chassis in Warhammer 40K, but one was close enough to be diverted for a different purpose.

There were a few tweaks and cuts needed, and the original paint job was banana yellow. I'm sure you'll agree the new base colour is far better than that.

I haven't bothered going through all the interim steps and effects as I've covered those in a previous article, but there is one new effects that has been used on this model.

Previous models have involved models that are around 30mm tall, whereas this one is 100mm tall, so it easily lends itself to a new technique; black-lining.

This is where you use either black (or in this case a darker shade of the base colour) to put a line around the edges of things like armour plates or other deep recesses to make them stand out. In this case it was a darker shade of blue to break up the armour segments.

What I end up with is hopefully something that is recognisable as a Nerio, or at least a reasonable representation of one.

The one thing that is missing are unit markings... but that would be maybe a spoiler as I'll be using this model in another piece later this week.

Fantasy Mecha/Nightmare Mecha By Sean Wadey # 356597

Mech Name: Shadow Blade
Cost: not for sale must win or capture (Although I personally would prefer to see this as an NPC only mecha, in a higher than we currently have level mission result where a player has to fight only one or two of these with either a full or partial formation)
Upgrade cost: 33 ferrite, 1333 bioptics, 3 niodes
Tonnage: 25
Start Armor: 45
Start Weapons: 3
Minimum Level: 90+ and either incredibly good relationship with the Emperor or the Shadow Clans
Levels/Weapon: 6
Initial Design and Manufacturer: Shifting Shadows Mecha Monastary
Mass Production Manufacturer: Alpha Corporation

Start Weapons: unknown
Build Bonuses: +10 Speed, +1% Crit-Kill, Precision (8), Dodge (7), 25% Laser Vulnerable, 25% Fire Vulnerable, 20% Ice Vulnerable, 17% Missile Vulnerable.

Guesstimated Bonuses at Minimum Level of 90: +91 Speed, +45% 1.5x Damage, +8% Crit-Kill, Precision (70), Dodge (73), 50% Laser Vulnerable, 50% Fire Vulnerable, 43% Ice Vulnerable, 33% Missile Vulnerable, 45% Trample Shield, 45% Fork Shield, 45% Wide Fork Shield

Final Equipment Slots at upgrade level 180: 4 Cockpit, 2 Chassis, 3 Engines
Final Bonuses at upgrade level 180: +171 Speed, +90% 1.5x Damage, +15% Crit-Kill, Precision (132), Dodge (138), 75% Laser Vulnerable, 75% Fire Vulnerable, 67% Ice Vulnerable, 50% Missile Vulnerable, 90% Trample Shield, 90% Fork Shield, 90% Wide Fork Shield

These stats would allow this mecha at level 180 to match a fully equipped level 180 Antithesis for dodge, a fully equipped level 180 Boreas for Precision, and to be able to fire as often as a fully armed and equipped level 181 Fext, it might have to hit them several times to destroy them, unless crit-kill worked, and chances are the larger mecha would only have to hit it once to destroy it but it should be a fight instead of the slaughter that taking same level light mecha even in a larger formation up against BFM is. The reason for this is because it is designed to hunt down and destroy command mecha and assassinate the generals within them.

In April of 3307 several Research and Development Corps formations that were returning from missions on the Jungle Moon of Rizpah were attacked by an unknown mecha. This mecha single handedly nearly wiped out an entire formation of veteran Hoplite pilots in almost fully upgraded mecha. Unfortunately the unknown pilot of this mecha fought to the death rather than surrender or withdraw as Mercenary Commission rules of engagement dictate so we took the mecha as a prize and proceeded to learn as much as we could from it. For more than 8 months we have learned as much as we can about this mecha and are making our findings public for two reasons: first as a public safety announcement to mercenaries operating in Meiji Shogunate and Shegakuji Reaches space; Second we can neither replicate this mecha nor it's weapon systems so we figured there was no more point in keeping it secret. For our classification purposes and because it's the best translation we could get of its actual name… we think… we're calling the mecha the Shadow Blade.

On the fringe ward edge of the Meiji Shogunate is a cold dark star around which orbits a world called "Darkness" (rough translation) upon which stands the mecha-monastary of "Shifting Shadows" (again a rough translation). Early in the 33rd century the Emperor himself tasked the cyber-monks there to create the ultimate stealth mecha. We hope the Shadow Blade was the end result of their endeavors.

The Shadow Blade is powered by a 3rd generation controlled singularity power plant. This not only provides power to the mecha but subtly manipulates the gravitational forces around the mecha. This combined with advanced niode actuators makes it incredibly light on its feet, exceptionally maneuverable and very hard to detect using gravimetric sensors. The power plant, engine compartment and cockpit are surrounded by faraday cages. All power conduits, data lines and control relays using advanced neural-bioptic circuits are also electromagnetically shielded. This makes the Shadow Blade immune to most electromagnetic pulses and when combined with a radar absorbent frame and armor that uses no ferrous metals makes it invisible to magnetic anomaly detectors. It has two operational modes that dictate how its stealth, communications and sensor systems work.

In passive mode the Shadow Blade is practically invisible and senses it's surrounding through its skin. The surface of the mecha is covered with thousands of polygons (most are actually hexagons but some aren't) each of which is made up of radar absorbent material and on the outside is covered in nanite directed nano-tubules as well as a number of electromagnetic sensors and emitters. All of these polygons share data with each other and the central computer creating a phased array sensor and emitter that can see everything from gamma rays to extreme ultraviolet through the visible spectrum to far infrared and very low frequency radio waves. They also allow it to mimic it's environment in almost all of those spectrum allowing it to disappear if not moving and due to a micro second lag still be practically invisible even when moving although a blur may be seen or sensor ghosting. In this mode weapon systems are limited to those that can have their firing ports (also covered in polygons) open and close in a fraction of a second such as some laser and Ice weapons to minimize possible detection. Although at least one highly skilled pilot would even use a melee weapon in this mode but retract it after every strike minimizing the weapons detection.

In active mode the skin of the Shadow Blade goes passive on the polygons outer surface all the nano-tubules are aligned vertically. The active sensor suite includes the most advance Radar, Lidar, Sonar, optical, electromagnetic and gravimetric sensors the Meiji Shogunate has ever deployed. This mode also include an active jamming system that interferes with all radio sensors and communications within a several kilometer radius from the mecha. In this mode weapon ports will stay open as long as they need to be allowing it to use a variety of fire, missile, projectile and even melee weapons. The vertically aligned nano-tubules on the polygons creates a vantablack surface over the entire mecha, hard for the human eye to process as it will absorb all visible light and sensor lasers nothing is reflected, which is very strange when you fire an energy weapon at it and none of the waste or bleed light you normally see from a hit or even a miss is seen. Although this light absorption heats up the polygon they actually convert most of the excess heat from non weapon sources to energy and route it to sensors, the jammers and weapons. The vantablack surface of the mecha is only broken by the open visor for the mechas sensors and weapon ports for weapons in use, all such surfaces are still painted black but at least you can see some details of these floating in a sea of apparent nothingness.

There are some disadvantages to this mecha. The central computer is constantly dealing with thousands of sensor inputs and outputs it takes a highly skilled pilot able to filter out all of this extra data flow and concentrate on fighting and maneuvering when neurally linked. Although the polygons on the surface of the mecha are its best defense the light armor and frame beneath them cannot handle a lot of punishment. Hits by energy weapons of any sort cause excessive heat buildup that the power conversion system cannot handle causing additional damage. Also the Meiji Shogunate has not figured out how to dodge explosions and large area effect weapons so some times the easiest way to hit this mecha is fire area effect splash weapons where you think it is.

Based on our research these mecha are still very rare and are only used officially by the Emperor's own Secret Police or Himitsukei. However our research also indicates that the cyber-monks of the mecha-monastery of Shifting Shadows also has very close ties with the rumored shadow clans to which the Shogun himself, the Damyios, and the Yakuza will turn to and pay for assassinations, which means such mecha may also be in the hands of so called Ninja. Fortunately the Warrior caste of the Meiji Shogunate disdains the use of stealth technology and would consider such extensive use of such technology dishonorable as well as any pilot that uses such technology.

We are not certain who the pilot of the mecha RND captured was working for, nor do we know what weapons are considered stock with such a mecha. The one we captured was equipped for communications surveillance, with computer systems that could decrypt communications signals in real time if the decryption algorithms were know in advance, we hope the pilot learned these from our pilots that they captured (we were unable to recover the missing bodies of our pilots and do not know for sure what happened to them). The implications are that such a mecha could even intercept a communications laser by standing between the sender and receiver, copy the information while sending the same signal to the intended target and the sender and receiver would not know the intercept occurred.

The weapons we encountered deployed on this mecha were as advanced as the mecha itself, they included: A retractable microfilament edged vibroblade, capable of decapitating a mecha or punching through its armor to its core systems; A projectile weapon that would use a combination of gravimetric and electromagnetic accelerators to spin and launch flat disc and star shaped projectiles, some of which were designed as high density penetrators with a microfilament edge, explosives that would detonate after embedding themselves in the target, or release nanodisemblers to eat away at the targets armor; An energy beam designed to hack into and disrupt or take over the target mechas control computer; A missile launcher that could deploy a cloud of sensor blocking and disrupting particles; A variation of the Prince of Irons Iron Chain but used multiple microfilament cables with hooks as well as piercers and a retraction system that could drag a lighter mecha within reach of a melee attack or suspend the Shadow Blade from a surface; And beneath the armored chest plate we found a beam weapon that seemed to be designed to expend all stored and produced energy in a single devastating blast which would not only vaporize mecha but tear up the country side pretty good (we are trying to repair this weapon system enough that we can test fire it, because this is important research for RND… and some of us just really like big explosions)

Legendary Pilots
Based on our research we found limited data on Oroku Yoshi and Hamato Saki. They are the only pilots of this mecha that are talked of by name but we were unable to find any detailed or corroborated information on either of them other than they both may have worked for the Himitsukei and one of them may have forsaken his oaths and become a leader of a Shadow clan, possibly with a foot fetish.

Quick and Dirty Stealth Mech by David McCallum #701548

I make absolutely no excuses.

Due to the particular date and its relevance to myself, I was seriously in need of some distraction.

Unfortunately Clan War just wasn't enough... my attack run had been completed and I was bored. So bored I went grocery shopping.

And it was there, in the midst of the supermarket that I spotted what can only be described as a target of opportunity. Sometimes, it takes a little leap of the imagination to be able to discern one form, or part thereof, from another.

What I had actually spied was the stand of Matchbox cars, and in amongst them was a little replica from a certain superhero franchise. You may know it as "The Bat"; I however know it as 'Stealth Mech Torso no.1'...

Rushing home, I searched through my own toy box (the one the kids are banned from...) and found not only some likely weaponry, but a Transformers 'Optimus Prime' key-chain, which we will now refer to as 'hip and leg donor'.

Now I'll stop at this point. Yes, this is going to be a very fast and dirty chop job. So sue me... I wanted a quick project.

The other thing is that a lot of you will be thinking that 'The Bat' is going to be unfeasibly large to fit on those legs.

Sorry, but you are incorrect. You see, as a 'Gentleman of a Certain Age' playing this game, there is a good chance that I came to mecha through another game, perhaps a tabletop one.

That is correct, however you would probably get the game wrong. You see, almost 30 years ago I was a Titan Princeps in command of a Warlord class Battle Titan, courtesy of Games Workshop's 'Adeptus Titanicus'. And as such, the concept of a bipedal mech having a large turtle-shell carapace is nothing new.

And so ensues the fastest mech construction/kitbash I've ever done. The hips are hacked through to leave a pair of legs that are glued to their base and the base is textured. Note that I've set it well forward on the base as the model is going to end up quite back heavy.

A quick base-coat of matte black is applied, and while that is drying the gun barrels have been removed from their donor pieces and glued to the main chassis, turning jet intakes into full blown gun pods.

All that is left is to glue the two halves together (epoxy was needed otherwise the join would be too fragile) and give the model a very quick drybrush of light grey for the base, dark grey as a highlight for the body and gunmetal for the weapons and mesh grills.

And now all that's needed is to get some pics of it in a nice terrain setting!

I hope these articles inspire or prompt you to have a stab at your own creations, and we'd certainly love to see some pictures of your own work.

Other Mechs by David McCallum #701548

It's been a while, but you may remember that apart from Mecha Galaxy, there are other war games that I play. They involve using, what my wife indulgently calls, toy soldiers.

Some of the models I make are of a larger scale, but I have recently (thanks to certain clan mates) taken an interest in smaller scale models.

This led me to three things....

1. My search for suitable models found some which are within pocket money range of most folk, so if you love mechs, why not get some?

2. Painted always looks better than unpainted, so maybe people would want to know how to do so in a simple manner...

3. Some of us are getting to ... a certain age... whereby detailed painting is not something we can do much of, either due to eyesight or other appendages beginning to... do their own thing. So any paint scheme needs to be easy enough for us codgers to get away with.

So, if you want some of your own "toy soldiers", here you go. The ones used in the following photographs are mechs from EM4 Miniatures. Extremely reasonably priced, although at the cost of being a tad generic. They are sized at 25-30 mm scale.

The ones shown here have been built up as the equivalent of the Robotech Defender/Battletech Rifleman and the Robotech Phalanx/Battletech Longbow. They could however stand in for perhaps a Buchis and a Dread if you wanted as the weapons are similair.

Note: This is not an in depth painting guide with tutorials in different techniques. Any special techniques will be displayed in italic bold so that you can Google the term for further information.

So lets dive straight in.

I've assembled 3 mechs, given them a quick grey undercoat with a cheap spray can of primer, then painted the base colours.

Detailing is relatively scarce so as to keep the paint scheme simple. Apart from the all over paint scheme, the only things of different colour are weapon barrels and missiles that have been base-coated black and drybrushed silver, silver cockpit canopies, white on insignia plates and some block colour for unit markings.

So at this stage, you have a pristine mech as it walks off the production line. To be honest, good enough for a first attempt at this stage, and you could actually stop there. But no war machine stays pristine for long.

Here, I have used straight grey to expose undercoat where paint has been chipped away by barging through obstacles in combat. Just make not to get it only on raised areas or corners, and pay special attention to the feet and legs as they are most prone to wear.

Now I have used silver on those same areas to show that the paint has been stripped back to bare metal. I haven't attempted to completely cover the grey, so we have some areas where it has been stripped only to undercoat and other deeper scratches which completely bring it back to the base metal of the mech.

I particularly like this stage as it is counter intuitive; from bottom to top it should go metal - undercoat - top coat but we have actually applied them in the reverse order for ease... its just our mind that reverses things to see what we know should be correct.

I have now applied an ink wash in a slightly darker brown than the base coats. This will fill darker in the detail areas to make the detail stand out by shadowing it, while muting the other colours to make them less stark.

I have used brown regardless of the base coat used. Yes, in advanced painting you can use darker shades of whatever base colour you use, but in a simple paint scheme a brown wash shades any colour except perhaps blacks or dark greys.... it's like applying a sepia filter to a photograph.

We are now getting even more battle worn. The gun barrels have been blacked out to signify them being hollow. An orange ink has been used around exposed bare metal to signify new rust, remembering to start at the metal then paint downward to show that rusty water has stained downward. I have also stippled the gun barrels with grey, then black closest to the muzzle to "soot" them and show they have been fired.

With the painting almost complete, I have now turned my attention to the base. It needs to be disguised so it looks like actual ground, and most modelers use some form of texture material for that.

The mix I have used is one that I use for a lot of modern / sci-fi figures. It consists of sand, fine model railway ballast, fish tank coral and pieces of cut up model sprue. This mix also has some small aluminium pieces that I picked up in a metal work shop.

To glue it in place, use a mix of PVA glue and water with a dash of detergent. The detergent breaks the surface tension of the liquid and allows it to flow better around the basing material to bind it together.

The end is in sight.

The base got a coat of black and was then drybrushed grey. To blend the mech with the terrain it is moving through, I used the same grey stippled around the feet and lower legs where dust and dirt has been kicked up. Remember that in real life, a person or vehicle that flicks up mud while travelling tends to get more up the back than the front. so pay special attention there.

I also did a little spot color on the missile tips to emphasise them. Oh, and don't forget clan markings on the insignia plate, which I cheated with and used a 0.3 mm fine line pen for rather than a paint brush.

Bios

As the smoke swirled across the battlefield the fight was finally over. Titus was defeated and his mecha was left smoking. Shepard was sure Titus had ejected at the last minute but the smoke was so thick that visibility was poor and once again Titan had escaped. Once again Shepard and his pilots scoured the battlefield but only came up with one usable weapon, a Ferrite Storm, everything else left was worth little more than a few Ferrite. Shepard was frustrated! How many times can Titus escape?

How many times would he have to drag his mechs around Yomi's Reefs? Eventually the Bounty on Titus would not be worth the expenditure.

Shepard returned to the Cockpit of Grimm-Luck, his Regi, and fired off the Twin Grazers in frustration at the empty hanger that Titus had emerged from. Surprisingly and quite unexpectedly there was a rumble and the hanger collapsed into the ground leaving a large hole. As the smoke and dust slowly cleared Shepard was sure he saw a glint of metal in the moonlight and approached the hanger to investigate. As Shepard drew closer he could see more than a glint of metal....he stood in awe of what he could see hidden below the hanger.

The sight that met his eyes was one of a giant Blue and White Mech. It had to be at least 100 tons. It was like nothing he had ever seen before. The only distinguishing marking was down the left leg and read 'TITAN MK 01'.

Slowly Shepard realised what he had found. He had found the reason Titus stuck to 'The Reefs' and why Titus kept coming back. Titus was building his own custom mecha! Shepard paused for a minute before calling his drop ship and loading the 'Titan' on board before Titus returned or anyone else turned up to lay claim to his prize.

Back at Heroes HQ Shepard, along with the help of his clan mates quickly started work on analysing the Titan and the results were astounding.

Defensively it could hold it's own and when fitted with the right shields it was more than a match for any mecha currently known. Offensively though it excelled in many ways. Laser and Ice weapons had considerable damage boosts but the most impressive aspect of the Titan was a strange glowing crystalline substance encasing each of the weapon ports. When Laser or Ice weapons were fired from these ports the crystalline substance refracted the shot into many different pathways causing the weapon to 'fork' hitting additional targets with the same damage as the initial shot.

Clearly in the hands of the right pilot, like Titus, this mecha is more than deadly and able to take out a whole row of mecha with one well timed shot.

Knight Bios
One night while playing a chess match Spike Shepard picked up his knight ready to move the piece but instead he just looked at it and remarked 'We have a Rook, we have a Bishop...but we don't have a Knight'. Initially some of Clan heroes looked at him a little strange until he grabbed a pencil and some paper and started sketching. About 30 minutes later after much Hmming, Tutting and a few head shakes Spike finally shouted 'Eureka!' and waved his sketch in the air. The Knight had been born, on paper, though the building of the Knight would be a different matter altogether.....

The quadrupedal design of the mech encountered many problems and Shepard struggled to get the Mech to stand, let alone move around with any co-ordination. The mech was almost scrapped at one point until the day that Shepard took out a Keradon for a ride and realized that the poly pedal design could be adapted and enlarged to drive this giant mech forward. With a few tweaks and a bit of research the poly pedal design was modified and adapted to drive a mech almost three times the size of the Keradon. Within a few months Clan Heroes had a fully working prototype and put in through rigorous testing.

Surprisingly a mech of this size was not made for the front lines of combat. The qudrupedal design allows for the Knight to carry heavier, longer range weapons and lots of them. Not only that but the Knight has been built to be prolific with every type and size of weapon available. Leaving the Knight to be best used as long range artillery or heavy support for smaller, faster front line mecha.

The Knight though is not just for support or long range assaults. It can hold it's own in close combat if need be and has built in shields allowing it to help negate damage that would cripple or shutdown lighter mech. Also the quadrupedal design gives the Knight a boost to speed that is missing in other mecha of similar tonnage. This ability helps the Knight stay in a sustained battle meaning the Knight is not easily overrun but multiple opponents either. All round the Knight is a great addition to any commanders line-up and used wisely it can turn the tide of a battle.

The Archangel (A.K.A. Deva) Fantasy Mecha By Germán Jaramillo ID# 685605

Throughout history, religions have fueled stories and legends about apparitions of creatures or entities of a higher order intermediary between the divinity and the humanity.

These entities were denominated in various forms (Devas, Elohim, Angels, Archons, Genii ...) these entities act as agents of the Divine Will, sometimes fighting the manifestations of evil as the pure antagonistic nature of the supreme divinity.

With the discovery of the Drocha technology, these apparitions began to be compared with sacred or supernatural Mechs features.

However, such stories of legendary dye have never been seriously studied and contrasted from a scientific point of view, but from folklore, myths and legends, along with testimonials of qualified personnel, whose veracity has nonetheless been impossible to verify, a team of archaeologists, historians, engineers and roboticists led by The Cardinal and Scientist Dr. Emile Leibner from the theocratic System of Celestia VII has made this hypothetical study of the capabilities of this divine entity from the point of view of Mechs.

This "apocryphal" study found recurring capabilities giving to these entities categorized as mech, powerful defensive qualities without paragon in the form of protective auras or energy fields acting as an effective shield against all known attacks.

Other common qualities in all the stories mention the ability to fly, an amazing speed and maneuverability and the ability to leave or enter phase at will or perhaps a deep knowledge of the gateways.

Myth or reality, we have echoed this study, based on thousands of observations (never scientifically proven), and we present the:

ARCHANGEL (Also known as DEVA)

Disclaimer: Once more time, we want to make sure you understand that this study has been never contrasted, and is merely hypothetical.

Azazel Fantasy Mecha By Nathan Justin Weiser #817890

For time immemorial, man has had the technology that has allowed us to pilot mechs. Long ago we used mechs for work that was to dangerous or difficult for human. We lived in peace, using our mechs to guide us to a future of prosperity. This civilization is often called the forerunners. People suggest the technology they had built was left by them as they left off into distant space, but that is not the fact of the matter. The truth as I have found in my research is that we are the children of that lost civilization. A civilization nearly wiped out by a great change in our society, one that was enacted upon us by the demon mech Azazel.

There are no sources that say where it came from, simply that it appeared on day on the edge of a great lords kingdom. The shadowy pilot spoke to the man and corrupted his thoughts, turning him from a desire of prosperity to a desire of conquest. As he came to understand, prosperity could not be furthered as easily through hard work as it could from simply taking from others. The pilot showed the ruler how Azazel had been outfitted for producing great amounts of power. This power could be transferred into many of the applications that most mechs currently used, but towards darker more destructive ends. It began with lasers that were once used to cut steel for construction that could now be used to bore a hole through great walls. Next, cooling systems were strengthened to such a degree that fields could be snapped into a wintry landscape in mere seconds. Heating systems followed, the forges that were once used for shaping metal now could melt it in an instant. Soon, new systems were devised under the dark and cunning advisement of the evil pilot. Those were first the projectile systems and then the missile systems.

That was the beginning of the end for the forerunner society. Instead of man working hand in hand with each other, they began turning their hands against each other devising ever greater and greater destructive devices. Man turned away from their scientific pursuits and focused on only war. Research could be continued tomorrow, but as the wars raged, the population dwindled. After a long enough time, very few remained. As it will in times of survival, a desperation lead man to work again hand in hand but never at anything beyond a tenuous peace. Satisfied with the chaos it had wrought, the Azazel and its dark pilot slunk off into the Æther.

However, texts have been found that date back very early, nearly to the time of it's first appearance that cataloged as much of the features of the mech as it could. Some abilities may still be missing or just lost to time, but what we know of the mech could be found in the following:

Beyond that, the information runs dry. The stories of the power of this mech, however, suggest that it could do a great deal beyond what is described. Some say it appeared to phase in and out of existence, transport from one location to another, and even change the physical form that it took. It is unknown if that technology was ever accessible to the Forerunners, but the stories live on in ancient tombs. All I can say for sure is that we should hope that the day will not arrive when we will once again have to gaze upon the Azazel and the armies of the damned.

Long Tom Sniper Mecha By Brian D. Wise#17026

Take the picture of the dreadnaught and instead of having the machine guns up top, take the graphic of the cindron arm and place it underneath the dreadnaughts arm, and give it the effect of a cannon firing from each arm.

I'm not going to give what it should have every level up to 140 or higher, that I will leave to the devs digression. But I will say for the design I would want it to be an 85 ton mech maybe 95-100...its built on high precision and heavy projectile damage, it does get a boost into trample for the sheer punch of its cannons. it should have a high amount of cockpits slots at higher levels as well as engines. Its weakness is shields slots and chassis. it is basically a good old fashion sniper mech with a very heavy but powerful cannon.

It should also get a steadily increasing ability at either crit kill and 3x damage because it is a sniper mech and they tend to do a massive hit in a single shot. As for weapons a couple of strong niode cannons for its main guns and then a bunch of railguns as its lesser weapons.

As I said, I don't want to dictate too much as to what each level should be, but I want to put the idea of some of my favorite mechs I used to enjoy playing with on mech warrior and other games. My next mech design will be the knight mech, and trust me this will be an interesting one.

Fire Ant Fantasy Mecha By Sten Hugo Hiller #627184

After an interesting adventure near proxima 23b alpha (the swamp moon) the Starleague R&D (Relax and Drink) team met at the spa. With huge drinks we all sat down on specially ordered ice blocks.

After our posteriors was sufficiently cooled, the drinks had been refreshed several times and life promised hangovers to take our minds from other body parts in the morning we started talking of our experiences.

They were remarkably similar, remarkably painful and centered around being looked inside our mechs with angry fire ants. At around this time we got some more drinks and started talking about the ants as real opponents. Two hours and 6 liters of 150 proof later we had a perfect design.

Unfortunately at that time we passed out, and when we was woken 4 hours later by the staff we had severe cases of hypothermia. It was only last week I found the files, and they seem to have been severely corrupted. At least they don't seem as perfect as they did at the time.

S.P.E.C.T.R.E. (Special Tactics And Research Elite) Fantasy Mecha By Germán Jaramillo Pulido # 685605

(Pic from the Mecha Galaxy Art polished by courtesy of Alexandre Wei Lebedeff)

The Project started as a prototype for the White Knight, a new mech for commanding and Staff purposes originally conceived for the 99th Chessmen R&D Core Clan Engineers in the factories of their cold planet, Caissa; then, the project got cancelled and the Caissan Engineers who took part in the creation of the Knight continued it giving to the project a turn of 180 degrees… The engineers changed the chassis and applications, starting the project Dark Knight, later renamed as NIGTHMARE (Nocturnal Mech for Advanced Research) and later SPECTRE (acronym for “Special Tactics and Research Elite”).

A special mech developed to work as both, commander unit and advanced black ops mech.

The stealth and maneuvering abilities of the Spectre can’t be matched by any other mech as its IA counts with the most advanced awareness and deceiving systems with a bio-intelligence in continuous growing. The IA given to this machine has given some issues to the few daring testing pilots, requiring a high bioptical link harmonization to be allowed to plenty control all the capabilities of this extraordinary shadowy war machine.

To complete the capabilities of the machine, the engineers gave to the Spectre a special plating providing a dreadful appearance extracted from the worst of the nightmares. This Black Ops mech comes from the factories already equipped with the fearsome aspect chassis.

The Imperator Fantasy Mecha By Germán Jaramillo # 685605 & Alexandre Wei Lebedeff #16172

Developed in one of the oldest installations of the Star Factories, this armored titan was created by a large scientist and engineering team, led by a genius on bioptic links, the Doctor Hans Grüber and the historian and eminent scientist on Niode-Robotics System, the Doctor Mendoza-Villalobos, creator of a special alloy of endured and intelligent niobium plates able to react against all kind of aggressive environments.

Inspirited on the ancient plated knights of the middle eve in the old Earth, this Gigantic Mech is expected to serve as a mobile operational centre and leadership vanguard on any action.

The Imperator, aside the mentioned capability to keep control on wide ground operations as mobile Head Quarter Mech, has magnificent battle skills, with a superb shielding system and an unstoppable Laser like Force-Sword, able to pierce the harder mech hulks.

Although the production of this King among the titanic mechs has not started yet at a big scale, its existence reached a great fame and the requests from some of the most powerful leaders of the Galaxy, the most renowned Generals and some of the legendary pilots; are accumulating in the administrative offices of the Star Factories.

Fusion By Steve Shcman#719489

Many years after the glyphs were translated in the unnamed cavernous hanger; a curious archeologist returned and began looking for something missing from the original translation. Indeed he did find a new glyph; an odd planet looking one with stars. To his amazement when glyph was uploaded to his ship navigational computer, a new planet began to blink all by itself in an unexplored zone of space. The archaeologist could not contain his excitement; he had always dreamed to be the first of journeying to a new territory and become the first person to explore it. He quickly set a course and off he went into darkness between the galaxies.

When he arrived on the planet, he could not believe what he was seeing. An entire planet made of a junkyard of mechs familiar and not so familiar. There were whole regions where mechs were piled up onto one another; these piles could easily be several miles high. Wherever there wasn't a mountain of destroyed mech, huge craters with the remains of spent ammunition, mech parts and unexploded ordinance littered the rest of the enormous planet, making these massive battlefields.

Most of the mechs had been left here for thousands of years it seems, shrouded by forests in some areas, among some of these areas had what appeared to be brand new mechs just piled and stacked for hundreds of miles. The Archeologist started scanning the planet; there were two humanoid signatures present on the planet, the Archeologist was down hearted. He wasnt the first to discover this planet. He decided that he still needed to investingate these humanoid creatures and this planet, unfortunately they were not responding to any form of communication he could transmit from where he was. The Archeologist decided it was worth the risk to see who was there and what they were doing on this junkyard planet.

He set his ship down next to a massive hanger near the two humanoid creatures and immediately was greeted by two very scruffy looking men. Smiles befell the three and an awkward silence arose. One of the two men was a spoke very little and the other spoke even less, they mainly mumbled each other.

"Are you real?" The tall of the two scruffy men asked.

"I guess you don't get many visitors out here in these part." I replied

"No, we don't. We have been stranded here for years." The tall man spoke. "They call me Talkie, call him Mums."

"I guess you can call me Arc". I politely told them.

"Will you take us off of this planet?" Talkie asks, Mums grins.

"I will be glad to , but first i would like to explore this place a little before we go. So is anything interesting around here to look at." I said to the men, they looked ecstatic.

"Well over in the hangar there is something inside you are not going to believe." Talkie said as he led us towards the entrance. One step in and Arc's jaw dropped, these two scraggily men were mechanics and they had spent years fusing mechs together.

"There is thousands of them." I commented, awestruck.

"Nah, only like 500." Talkie commented, Mums says something to Talkie and smiles. "We have tested all of these but one" Talkie said and pointed to a massive mech under a giant tarp. They are visually excited and so was Arc. In a large section of the hanger that looked like it had been closed off for a while now, was a very large mech under cover of the large tarp. Mums flips the light and Talkie uses a rope and pullies to help remove the cover. It was 3 mechs fused together.

"It looks like a Megazome body with an Aspis head and a Apatotron long neck head as its tail." Arc said.

"Mums calls it a Chimera, but I keep telling him he's got his myths mixed up. I call it MeAsAp. It has been finished for years; however me and Mums needed a third pilot for the tail section. What do say partner? You want drive something no one ever has before?" Talkie said. Arc thought back to when he was younger, and piloted Red Ants and Anzus, but nothing ever like this. His reply was "ABSOLUTELY!" Talkie laughed and said "Lets go over some of the specs before we get going." Arc agreed.

"We kept the build specs for each the same, but had to make some sacrifices to max each mechs abilities. From the Megazome, we kept its maneuverability and weapon holding ability, and the need for two pilots for that section, which made it the perfect mech to start with. All of its weapons were stripped except for frozen wind. The top was taken off making what was a 65 ton mech now weigh somewhere around 50 tons for the base of the mech." Talkie stated. Mums just nodded and grinned.

"The next step was attaching the Aspis head, which weighs nearly 20 tons by itself. The extra shielding and attacks make this mech a force to be reckoned with. But it was very heavy for the front end of the mech. So we realized a counter weight was necessary to keep the mech stable." Talkie said as he walked over to the mech and patted its armored hull. Many ideas were thrown around and Mums said 'lets just make a Chimera.' And what was the fusion of 2 mechs became 3. So the Aspis had to lose a little more weight and the 3 Tri slaggers were reduced to one. Precision was less important and shooting first became the goal. The Apato's neck was able to be fused as well as one Jurassic Thunder. Bringing the mech up to 105 tons total"

Talkie looks over at Arc, who is drooling after watching all the development tapes, and says to him "you ready to ride Arc?"
