At its core, the clan Samurai Mecha is composed of ex-Shogunate mercenaries. They were the last survivors of a terrible failed invasion in which the Meiji Emperor gave their division a suicide order to attack a planet populated by wild Gigus'. It was a complete failure and only a few warriors from that division survived when a Jadoon was accidentally awakened. Unwilling to commit seppuku but unable to return, they clutched their wounds and limped off to form their own group as they regained strength. A thorn in the emperor's side, they are a reminder He is not divine in His rule and is prone to the exact same mortal errors as any other human faction leader. The Samurai Mecha have powerful allies in the form of the AFF however, so He dares not assassinate them.
Now, this clan is not entirely solely composed of ex-Shogunate, since pilots who meet certain... "criteria" are also known to be accepted in. Asked about their hierarchy, a Mecha Samurai member will tell you, they do have a leader but it is more of a confederation of fighters who agree to fight under a unified cause and as such is for all intents and purposes rather democratic in nature. They have been known to take war orphans in under their wing and are fondly thought of by said latchkey pilots to be not unlike a family unit in that way. The "father" of Samurai Mecha is the space warrior TcTt, about whom not a whole lot is known. Samurai Mecha cares more about what you fight like and less about whether you are a human, mutant, a test-tube grown clone or an android. The main rule amongst us is you need to subscribe to the mecha Bushido. Train daily, meditate occasionally and share lottery winnings with your clanmates so that the whole clan is strengthened.
We may be the odd step-child the emperor pretends not to have when He is asked but still consider ourselves loyal to the Shogunate's people. Just not that power hungry madman. The Samurai Mecha, as ronins, are not terribly fond of the Shogunate military structure since under it their founders were basically sentenced to die with that impossible mission. An eye wasn't blinked before sending them off to that deadly world and no reinforcements were sent, despite requests for help. In a likewise way, Shoguns aren't exactly the firmest friends with this clan, since well, our continued existence is a reminder of their army's colossal tactical screw up. The Shogunate may revise their history to pretend it never happened but the tragedy of Meiji's biggest military failure will remain in the hearts of all Samurai Mecha pilots since it is the event which crystallized the formation of their group.
