So today, I started out to find what the Mecha Galaxy pilots all thought what the three worst mecha currently on the market were. I was expecting arguments, debates, even some name calling or “Your mecha so fat” jokes. However, if anything, the general consensus show a definite three mechas chosen. The Orester, the Namtar, and the Gigus.
Common reasons being lack of speed and lack of equipment slots as to why these mechs have no respect. But more importantly, I think it’s the company that they sit with. The Oggun is far and away one of the favorite workhorse mechs galaxy wide. Fast, good evasive capabilities, good targeting and able to take (and deliver) a shot, the Oggun sits in the same weight class as both the Orester and the Namtar, making both seem way underequipped to take on the challenge. Also you have the Fides, the Buchis, and the Smilodon in the same weight class which are all “must have” niode mechs if you plan on withstanding any serious assault.
In the specialty range, the Warg has shown to be extremely capable and the Cindron is the hands down best flame based mech on the market at it’s size. The Gigus has it even rougher in the 80 ton area, as it doesn’t fit into 70 ton spec units, and has even more competition performance wise from same sized mecha. The Inferno at 70 tons has long been thought of as THE fire mecha. Ballistas are THE missile based mecha of the crystal mechs. Then you have another four crystal and seven niode mechs which in one way or another, are far superior to the poor Gigus on every turn.
With these kind of odds in the competition, several pilots admit openly to targeting those that have large numbers of Oresters, Namtars, or Gigus in their ranks. “It’s like a kid being left alone in a candy store when you see a Namtar contingent coming through the tree line” exclaimed one pilot who chose not to be named, but the feeling of giddy destruction and looting of resources is shared by many.
So in short, not only are these three mechs outclassed in every technical respect for their weight class, they are even sought out as prime targets. Major overhauling of all three lines is needed if they are expected to be utilized in any way other than bait in the near future. Both the Illyrian Hegemony and the Society of Cogwork Planets have their work cut out for them, but with new discoveries in power delivery, weapons, and alien technology, we have high hopes for the resurrection of these three machines.
