As our regular readers know I have in my possession the now infamous Jabberwocky, a Dilophops mech that has seen much occur within our Galaxy. She once served in the AFF with her pilot Jabber, she bested Shogunate forces and survived a Sever piloting bounty hunter, she later was taken as her original pilot was killed by the Niodemancer Johnathan Judas and renamed as The Heretic. Judas thought he also rewrote her programming, and destroyed her A.I., turns out she just hid deep within the mechs sub routines.
After her defeat by Illyrian forces while she was under the command of Judas she came onto the open market, this is when I obtained her. I rediscovered the A.I. hiding deep within the mech and brought her fully back online. Since that time she has served me well and seen many more battles. The A.I. gets smarter after each encounter, cataloging the enemy mechs build weaknesses, as well as pilot errors and computing the next move within a probability matrix. This leads to an uncanny ability of the mech to predict the enemy movements and take proper countermeasures to ensure her victory. Overall it is an exceptional A.I. and has served me well as my personal mech for some time now.
But as with all mechs she is starting to show her battle scars, the servos move a little slower, the targeting system has a fraction of a second lag time in it, the weapons cycle just a bit slower these days, all signs of a long and honorable career as a machine of battle. The reality of the situation was simply that I needed to replace the body, given she was an A.I. I could download her onto the Brotherhoods mainframe for safe keeping until an acceptable replacement could be found.
I didn't have to wait long as soon I found one of the ancient Regis mechs in Yomi Reefs. As has been noted in the past these mechs are superior to the now mass produced models made by Star Factories. Thankfully it did not take long to transport this husk of a mech back to Brotherhood space and get it in working order. Amazing the things you can do when you have a whole clan family worth of resources at your disposal. It took awhile but we got the ancient machine back online, fully armed and brought up to the maximum level of piloting that I could safely handle for the time being.
Now came the fun part hooking the body up with the brain I had waiting for it. I spent hours upon hours mapping and remapping neural pathways, nerve to niode reflex times, and general interface calibration responses. I hooked the Brotherhood mainframe into the Regis body and monitored the transference from the pilot seat of the Forerunner war machine. That's when things got interesting, it turns out this Regis wasn't just a husk it had its own A.I. installed.
It wasn't happy about being awoken, much less at the prospect of being deleted and replaced. It had basic drone combat module intelligence capabilities installed on it, unfortunately this did little against a evolving A.I. capable of learning and predicting the enemies next move. The mech itself shuddered, weapons cycled to fire, then back to safe mode, the whole thing lit up from head to tail in a massive silent explosion of light, then all went silent and the mech was still.
Just as I was about to disengage from the neural network the mech came alive violently. It spun about and stalked down the length of the hanger until it stood in front of the Dilophos frame. I tried like mad to shut it down but nothing would respond. The Twin Grazer laser cannons came online, powering up lightning fast with me having no hope in hell of shutting them down. There was a splash of light accompanied by a crack much like a peal of thunder, and the Dilophos frame simply blew apart.
I was just about to have a full blown panic attack in what I thought was a rogue mech until the internal comm systems came on and a familiar voice said, " Battle A.I. Wocky online, enemy A.I. deleted, this is my body now. Mecha designation rewritten as Jabberwocky, ready for combat when you are Pilot."
Once I got my heart rate under control I started laughing long and loud. " Jabberwocky is dead, long live Jabberwocky.", was all I could say between bursts of laughter.

Regis Mechs Armor Analysis
Now that the Regis mech is available for sale on the open market a few people, including myself have noticed some differences between the ones that are sold, and the ones that pilots may have found on Yomi. Aside from being found as just a husk without any weapons to speak of on the Reefs these mecha seem to be made differently from their mass produced counterparts.
The difference in question is the "found" mechs have more armor to them. For instance I found my first Regis on the Reefs, got it up to my piloting level of 89 and it has 1,236 armor value attached to it. By way of comparison I bought a Regis, which I also brought up to my pilot level, equipped it exactly the same as my "found" Regis, and it has 1,190 armor value attached to it. Now that is only a 46 point variance in armor which does not sound like a lot truthfully, but during combat that 46 armor variance could be the determining factor between a win or a loss.
This is unlike the Ignis mecha which were found fully intact with their weapons, and I am unsure of the Aspis mecha as I only had one that was found when they first started popping up across the Galaxy. But as for the Regis itself there is a confirmed difference in the armor between what was found on the Reefs and what is mass produced by Star Factories at present. It seems that the found Regis mecha are made just slightly differently, packing more dense armor onto them and still being able to maintain the same stat values as what we have now being mass produced and sold.
Speculations abound as to why this mecha is built to contain slightly more armor, yet still retain the same base stats of a mass produced mecha. Some sources in the scientific community simply point out that they are original Forerunner designs and as such they are tougher through a means we have yet to discover in our current mech making capabilities. Others think they are simply made from a stronger form of Ferrite which we no longer have access to due to the resource itself being mined out long ago, or still hidden away on a world we have yet to find in our current gateway networks. Whichever the reason all that is known for certain is that the found mechas are tougher, more durable, and much nastier in combat than the mass produced versions from Star Factories.

Niode Gate Mapping III
Enough of this darkness said Dorien addressing his crew. Spark's check for energy signatures. OK boss but I already did twice and I got nothing, not even enough energy to power a small nano bot. Hey, interrupted Canned Heat we have those niode batteries we use for emergency back ups. Well........... continued Spark's I suppose I could hook those up to....SPARK'S, screamed Dorien just get it done!
Canned Heat was already handing Spark's the batteries which he took as he pulled a hand held scanner out of his pocket. Walking around the ship he scanned the optical fibers hanging down from the ceiling, then he went to some open panels on the wall. This is the most logical place for a power source and with a twist of a few of the fibers on the niode batteries some of the ship's systems began to boot up.
Lights flickered on and holo images began to dance on the ship's heads up display as the crew looked around in amazement. Now they could take off their thin skin suites and lighted helmet's. Seeing the ship entirely for the first time, they noticed all the thousands of gate slots, now empty, lining both sides of the massive ship. At the bottom of each slot was a door that would open to eject the gate down to a awaiting planet where it would be tied to the planet's core and niodes hooked up.
Dorien heard from his father, how all this was done, in the beginning of the gate system, but he had never seen or even imagined standing by the real thing. All he could say was WOW! a forerunner gating ship Wow! Looking at the controls, Dorien found one marked log which he activated with a wave of his hand. The log read Kellek here, a forerunner named Roah captured my crew and I and put us on this old gating ship then striped it of most of its power and shoved us towards Earth as they watched from far away.
Roah though he saw a flash which he assumed was us burning up or crashing on Earth but what really happened was remarkable. This ship collided with a time machine piloted by a man named Droh. His machine was destroyed but we saved him. This ship was thrown across time and space and ended up here on this planet the natives called Tolobin. We quickly ditched the ship in this canyon not wanting to be found by Roah and his unbodies.
With the help of the natives we filled in and buried the ship. Just the end stuck out of the canyon so we used what little brush we could find to conceal the rest. Droh and I will go to the town to our west to set up camp and see if we can take the remaining niodes and part's of this ship and make gate's so I can get back to fight Roah and to take Droh to wherever he's going.
The rest of the log talked about Roah and the unbodies (consciousness in orb-ed bodies ) Dorien turned off the transmission , so that's what I saw back there he said pointing to where the bat's had been on the ceiling. Let's take a trip to town. Seeing that nothing more could be learned here, they grabbed the niode batteries and departed. They talked among themselves along the way on what thy had found.
Reaching town , they found piles of burnt skeletons everywhere. Stone tablets told of a fallen one that fell from the sky with a army of minions with metal bodies that could shoot fire out of their mouths. A large crumbling tower was the only structure left standing. A stone was blocking it's entrance and upon removing reviled a inscription on it's underside. The Mantis must have missed this on her visit here said Dorien as he began to read the inscription aloud.
In a time so far forgotten, in a land not far away, lies a place that's sorely trodden where time and space have come to play. But who will weld this ancient power, twisted stairs will lead the way and ascend up in the tower to evil forces kept at bay. Light emitting from the portal, clothed the welder in light's array, pushing back the dark lord's shadows making them as bright as day.
Dorien decided to camp at the base of the tower and ascend the twisted stairs in the light of morning when he and his crew were fresh. Secretly, Not wanting to expel his fears to the rest of the crew Dorien set up a make shift camp and slept, or at least tried to, until the twin moons no longer shed their light and the sun hung high in the sky.

NoRunners And A Mirror Universe Pt. XIV
“Drake, what was the method you and I decided for nullifying these Eldritch mechas’ ability to self-heal?”
“Well I hit them with pinpoint accuracy in the joints and you burn them so they can’t heal. I’m really not looking forward to facing so many of them, they’re so fast.” Drake laughs, “But then again I love blowing stuff up. FIRE!!!” twenty projectile weapons go off targeting the lead enemy mech about seven of them connected. “Do you happen to have any slow weapons? They helped last time.”
“A few Hyper Amps and some Galaxy Eyes. Giga Rex, use your Arctic Gales and Smelters for suppressive fire, strategy freezerburn! Claymore, Quanta, let loose with your slow lasers.” I go on Drake’s attack suggestions… after all, he’s said to have studied tactics under Titus, the boss on Yomi Reef; a man so badass he considers trashing all pilots who come his way in that inhospitable environment to be equivalent to brief morning exercise. They say Titus is so manly his hair left his head because it was afraid of him and migrated down to his beard.
Meanwhile, at the headquarters of the Antihuman fanatics… A huge mecha, bigger than any yet to date is being prepped within a hidden hangar. It is a 100 ton Mecha running off such a large number of Dark Niodes that the air itself seems to carry with it a certain miasma. Mechulhu… the reactionary harbinger of death. Workers seem scared and in awe of the tentacle-faced war engine they are finishing up constructing, even within their protective suits. The hierophant and his followers have hit a snag though. It seems the Antihuman civilization in the Negaverse has not achieved a similar level of sophistication in cloning technologies to our dimension. Hence use of cybernetics and surgery, as well as the preponderance of “zombification.” At the center of this horrible BFM class Eldritch Mecha is a storage tank containing a certain ancient warlord’s deceased brain. All efforts thus far at bringing Kellek back to the living in his new massive mechanized body to date have been failures.
The hierophant and his sub commander are quite pleased though with a most recent development that promises to change all that… it seems their agents in the most recent raid of the Unnatural History Museum have retrieved the body of one of the explorers, stolen it from that meddlesome academic Yithson. Through sinister technomancy they are in the process of bringing a mutated version of the Drake clone to their side… implanting a hexahedral miniature Dark Niode within his chest, infusing the decaying body with chemicals and bombarding the tissues with small jolts of electricity. the outsiders have the missing bit of technical knowledge which the fanatics would need to bring their founder back to life… Savage torture and severe alteration will drag the information out of Drake’s clone… whom the Hierophant erroneously believes to be the real Drake, since neither Yithson, Zeteg nor Gom understood there was more than one Drake, and the network of spies was going off information they’d collected from the elderly curator and border patrol group.
Back at the Space Island and site of the Gate… The most fleet footed of Yithson’s assistants took off down the express tunnel in a small transport some time after myco had left to check the gate, tracking the survey ship myco had borrowed. He is held back by the explosions, shelling and laserfire at the edge though, unable to get close enough to communicate word about the theft of Drake’s remains, and is thus forced to wait for the skirmish to end. He is also carrying the brain jar containing the upper half of Yithson’s head secured like a backpack with some of the mechanical arms holding the decrepit curator in place (did not know he could remove his head from his body… that’s kind of a neat trick!). Yithson signs to his assistant with a few free prosthetic arms from over the assistant’s shoulders while remaining clamped to his back by the rest. The assistant seems to understand and is relatively familiar with interpreting this method of communication. In his newly mobile, portable mode the elder expresses that he was afraid this might happen, gesturing towards the conflict. They have come to warn myco, Zeteg and Gom.
Toto notices the antihuman carrying a head which she recognizes. She addresses Patrick and Apocalyptor “Mighty bug, please! We should shield that Anti. He is… a friend.”

NoRunners And A Mirror Universe Pt. XIII
Trudging across the barren landscape of this strange world I found myself in unusual company looking for Mycobacter and Drake. I have an odd rat-like humanoid for a guide whose name as far as I can tell is Toto. She sits on my Jadoon’s right shoulder joint and talks endlessly about her people and their ways. Apparently she is using some kind of translator module so that she can be understood by me and my insect mecha. A lot of what she says goes over my head as her terms and reference points in this place mean little to me or Apocalyptor.
We walk through fields of strange tentacle like stalks, forests of rock formations and oceans of toxic fog, all the while she instructs us about her land and its people. She speaks of beings she calls The Anti-race, and how they are at odds with her people. She tells us of how her kind are proud and true scavengers not like others who inhabit this land that would kill you then take your tech. Her species prefers to take only from downed machinery, as to them it seems more honorable. They take great pride in building weird constructs out of what they can salvage, and according to her have built truly marvelous creations not seen for generations in this odd land.
Every now and again she pauses to sniff at the air and gives us course corrections. It seems like we have been traveling forever but when I check my mech’s power levels I see they never quite go down. My Jadoon explains it is because he can absorb the radiation of the area to continuously recharge his batteries. It seems the land itself is bombarded with toxins of all kinds. Chemical poisons, Bio hazard spills, radiation contamination, even gamma and dark matter saturation are strewn across the planet’s surface. Cities that at one time must have been major hubs of mighty empires are now little more than burned out husks.
It is in one of these burned out cities Toto calls an immediate halt to our progress while sniffing at the air frantically. A look of what I would call panic crosses her oddly human features before she cries out, “Rust beasts!”, before scampering quickly down the arm of my mech and disappearing into the remains of the buildings around us.
“Attention Writer unknown movement detected, half a mile to the east and closing fast, uncertain if it is biological in origins or not.” Apocalyptor informs me through the internal comm system.
My reply was simply to switch on his defensive shielding and activate his weapons systems, all the while keeping an eye on the fast approaching blips on his radar screen. The wait was short lived as a half dozen screaming creatures came into our immediate vicinity.
I had no idea what the hell these things were as looking at them it was all I could do not to be sick. They seemed about as big as a Gigus with what looked like most of their internal organs on the outside of their bodies. Musculature looked to be inverted with metallic looking bone showing through it, covered in slime and making enough noise to deafen a person from even inside a sealed cockpit. I think they saw us as I could see no clear eye ball or pupil only vacant sockets where the eye would be sitting. The largest of the six sniffed in our direction and roared three times sharply before lowering its head and charging straight at us.
It rammed us full speed and sent myself and my ninety ton mecha flying backwards from the impact. The Jadoon went wild over the neural link upon landing, exploding into buzzes, whirls, and chattering in my mind. I had never heard a “machine” so pissed off before and almost felt sorry for what was going to occur. But before we could even get up and get our bearings on these strange foes they had huddled together in one great big ball of slimy sickening flesh. Upon impact and connecting up to each other they started spewing bio-chemical acid in all directions totally saturating the immediate surroundings.
As soon as this acid landed on the surrounding structures they began to bubble, hiss and melt. I glimpsed Toto scrambling from a deteriorating building to more stable cover and ready herself for another run. Apocalyptor was back on his feet firing madly at the massed creatures with his Heat Lasers and Flavian Spears. Each impacted shot burned and cauterized large sections of flesh and was met by terrible screams, followed by more ejections of acid. Having enough of all this Apocalyptor brought his Rage Pulsars online, overclocking them to critical mass and aimed directly in the center of the massed creatures, before firing.
Upon impact the creatures exploded into flaming pieces, spraying acid everywhere and screaming horribly before they eventually near as we could tell “died”. It was then that Toto came out of hiding scrambled back up to her sitting place on my mechs shoulder and advised we basically get the hell out of dodge now! I was about to ask why when I saw the exploded pieces of flesh start to crawl and ooze back together. They seemed to be attempting to reform around an odd hexagonal structure in the center of the debris. We didn’t wait around much longer to see what would happen next and set off at a fast pace towards what Toto called the Anti-race’s dwelling. In a few short hours based on the locator beacon of Mycos and our newly acquired travel guide we will have finally caught up to our wayward explorers…. I hope
Drake’s Antithesis AI told Drake that a 90ton mech had just entered it’s long range scans, he told it to keep track of it while he and Myco made plans.
“I am detecting some further anomaly spikes commander” “An insect mech?” “Shall I tell the Hierophant?” “You, clean up his remains. You are now the new sub commander.”

NoRunners And A Mirror Universe Pt. XII
The AI woke Drake due to a disturbance with the clones, they seemed to be bickering. Right away he noticed the pheromones in the atmosphere was through the roof. He flips the comms on and verbally triggers the obedience command. Can’t have disobedient clones, no siree. He was just about to go back to sleep when the AI informed him that a new AI was downloaded. He asked for a report and listened intently to what his clone and Myco had learned. Well since he’s gone guess I should run scans and wait for Myco to arrive.
Once he gets back to the temporary camp, Myco hails the Antithesis.
“Oy, Drake, wake up! The other you is working with one of those people’s elders to see what all can be done about their genetic stability problem to improve the Antihumans’ health. He also said there would be…”
Myco’s three beast mecha are growling, staring at some object near the edge of the Gate approach.
I don’t remember that being there he thinks to himself. Some sort of a burrowing mecha perhaps?
“... some resistance.”
“I’m up ol boy, just running some scans, seems like we’re under a pheromone attack again. I’m aware of what my clone is doing there.”
“Wait, you mean Zeteg and Gom already told you?”
“No, my clone did. He downloaded himself and self terminated.”
“I think even if Yithson isn’t to be trusted, he seems at the very least to have been helpful so far…”
A message from Gom cuts across all channels with the auditory translator device embedded in Myco going into overdrive: “It’s a holy war. Zeteg has called all our fighters to mobilize station defenses. The fanatics have made their move and were hiding amongst our own numbers; I’m afraid we can’t send any manned reinforcements until we’ve dealt with this little insurrection. Drop ship will have sent the handful of guardians you and our mechanics have gotten back online we can spare… we think they mean to take over the station. Want to starve transport of supplies!”
The message cuts out... “What was that message? My clone was the guinea pig for that little device.” Drake smiles to himself, why put yourself at risk when you have diabolical clones willing to try crazy stuff for you.
“He’s saying the bad guys are coming, but that the zombies will be on our side.”
“Well that’s disturbing.” Drake laughs, “Okay lets power up weapons and collect some fresh samples.”
“Agreed,” I laugh heartily as I get into Claymore and once in instruct my 3 beast mecha to converge their ranged weapons on the fanatics’ burrower.
It rears itself up, moving through the soil with an unnatural fluidity as though it were in water or weak oatmeal. Things aren’t supposed to swim through ‘solid’ material like that… perhaps this eldritch mecha has a similar hull composition to our dimension’s Skriag?
Its full body when unearthed is much larger than the small portion of it previously above ground.
It has large clacking jaws. Smaller eldritch mecha (of a different make) pop out of the ground around it, fanning themselves into a pattern. So that must be their formation…
“Do you remember that mech your Gigus relieved himself on? My scans are saying that these mechs are from the same people, looks like the Norunners have found us before we could find them.” Drake’s Antithesis trains his projectile weapons on the main mech. Wonder what other tricks these Norunners are capable of.
“We’ll see. I think we may be at an advantage though. Particularly if they think we’re still susceptible to their psychoactive pheromones.”

NoRunner And A Mirror Universe Part XI
“Gom, you’ll show us the way to your people’s museum, right?”
“Of course. This city has much commerce. The air isn’t very good though, so you may want to wear masks.”
Drake places his helmet back in place and activates the life support, “Can you still hear and understand me?”
I realize these aliens haven’t gotten our names yet.
“I can Drake, we should probably tell our guide our names though. I’m Myco and he’s Drake.”
“I see,” says Gom. “It’s a bustling area, so I would also advise some small weapons for personal defense; filthy ratmen may try to panhandle.”
“Well what sort of money does your civilization use?” I ask Gom.
“Batteries, and radioactive ore, mostly.” He thinks a moment “...As well as Niodes.”
I’m starting to notice a theme I think here Drake.
“I do hope Gom that all these notes we are taking do not offend you.”
There is a strange gurgling noise. It takes a few moments to realize this is how Gom laughs.
“No, not at all. I was assuming you were writing to each other, since our languages are different. The machines Zeteg and I gave you only work for spoken languages, not written ones.”
“Oh I did not know that.” Drake lies smoothly, “I just find your civilization so interesting. I need to keep a lot of notes. Quanta can you replay the last notes I wrote?” Hoping that the AI could convincingly lie as well.
“Certainly master Drake. These ‘people’ are very different from us but their level of technology seems about equal to ours in most respects.”
Albeit with more of a brown footprint than a green one.
“The Ratmen have translators too but I would not trust them. They are… beneath us, best suited for garbage collecting and crude labor services, some do junk peddling.”
“Any of the junk useful?” casual question.
“Perhaps Drake, but I would be hesitant to interact with them. If you really would like to though, I can show you and Myco the merchant center… you can install a chip on your translator to understand the different merchants. Antis, we come in a great variety of shapes and do not all speak the same language… which is why the translator is so useful.”
“I can see that. But truthfully I was wondering what you knew of your enemies. Their diet and physiology. My scans noticed quite a difference in them and I was wondering how many you had managed to dissect.”
“Oh, well, there will be some information about them in the museum, but I can tell you that our founders, the NoRunners bred both us Antihumans and the Ratmen. Our empire, they are… it is tricky. We rely on ratlings for some forms of work and they in return get to live for the most part peacefully. Those ones attacking you before were a savage dissident group. I have the scalps of six as trophies.”
“I claimed a trophy myself.” Drake smiles
At the Norunner city
“Sir a large force of mechs have arrived through the gate. Your orders?”
“Send a burrower mech with high pheromone secretion to deal with them. They’ll fall into fighting each other then we can send a recovery team to salvage the remains.”
Drake and Myco travel towards the museum, Drake notices the ratmen slaving away on trash pick up. Drake scans their bio readings as they pass. hmmm interesting their DNA is degrading too but not as much. He compares the reading to the ones from the group they fought, small traces of radiation but no degradation at all, they have something protecting them. I wonder what.
Gom explains something by means of an introduction when they enter the main annex to the museum “Drake, Myco,... you may get some strange stares… I have assuaged that high levels of symmetry are the norm amongst your people but ours have an aesthetic favoring asymmetry. Perhaps you would be treated with less bias from one of our elders. In the antechamber at the end of this hall is one of our elder historians.”
This “historian” is the docent and caretaker of the Antihuman’s cultural museum. His body has been largely replaced by cybernetics: one leg is an obvious prosthetic, he has several small arms which all appear to be mechanical and instead of a proper face his brain is housed in a clear container, floating in some type of essential nutrient bath. Instead of eyes and ears he possesses electronic visual and auditory sensors. His mouth is natural and he has a beard which he gently tugs at with one of his limbs, slightly nervously.
“I am Yithson. Apparently the rumors some outsiders had came through the gate were true… Gom accompanying you here verifies it.”
Gom nods then has to excuse himself for awhile; he has been called back by Zeteg and has some business to attend to on the Station. Something about renewed activity at the Negaverse Gate and a need to observe it.
Yithson glances at Myco and Drake, his camera eyes adjusting focus and electronic ears position towards the visitors with a tiny whir.
“I will try to answer any questions you may have about our founders and the NoRunners which they worshiped.”
This historian is from a much earlier generation than Gom and Zeteg and though he did not personally know Kellek, apparently in his dimmest memories recalls having possibly seen a NoRunner once, he thinks. Yithson has spent several decades collecting different stories from various tribes and groups about their founders and the NoRunners and these are featured as one of the collections in the museum (the stories, not the actual tribes people… with the exception of a few carefully reassembled skeletal specimens held on display in the “unnatural history” section).
Drake took little interest in the museum this section seemed more like a library, a digital copy could be perused at Drake’s leisure at a later time.
Myco picked up on this somewhat and decides to ask Yithson a question “Yithson, we couldn’t help but notice there appears to be a large social division between the ratpeople and you mutants… what’s the story there?”
The aged caretaker’s brain-bucket lights up first red then green as he begins to formulate a response, then stops and thinks a little bit. There is a pause in Yithson’s lecture and some bubbles rise. He decides to scrap his original reply and instead goes at things from a different angle. “Oh, well if that interests you, we should go to the Unnatural History section.” His electronic eyes scan shifting first right, then left and back again. It becomes evident as he retrieves an access key from a lanyard around his neck that the area Yithson would like to take Drake and Myco to is a restricted section.
Yithson again checks to be sure that no one else is watching. Not even his assistants who tend the museum?
“You two are outsiders, it doesn’t matter so much if I tell you but for the dwellers in this city, they would rather pretend this isn’t so. The mutants which you refer to as Antihumans and those you call ratlings were at one point the same.”
Drake wanted to see if these people were totally ignorant to their eventual fate or were preparing to subdue and extract their DNA. “Interesting. Your genetic modifications made your DNA more susceptible to degradation than the ratmen, but even they are starting to degrade living in this environment, you did know that correct?”
Yithson’s brain-bucket lights up and bubbles again some more in response. “Our chief scientists… have been aware of this for awhile, but for the time being there is not a whole lot we can do about it. You see, the majority of our core technologies came from the wreckage of a ship Kellek had sent out… so our way of offsetting the problem is through replacing as much living tissue with cybernetics and synthetics as we can.” He gestures with one of his many robotic appendages, calling up a floating screen with some captioned figures taking up the body of it and charts about projections predicting continued degradation off to the side.
“It isn’t fully correct to say these were all our modifications. As I’d said before, originally both we and the ratmen were the same. Our founders, the NoRunners made our ancestors this way for fun, for conquest and to appease their curiosity.” He makes a sweeping dismissive motion with another arm, switching off the screen. “What they did large scale to colonize our worlds we do on a much smaller, more individual level. To truly understand these things though you would have to understand the nature of the religions here.”
Yithson calls up another screen to illustrate his newest point. “Ours are mainly variations on technotheocratic singularitarianism and the like.” The images on the screen split down the middle and sort to show the Antihumans’ main transfiguration cults on one side and the beliefs of the ratmen on the other. “The ratlings, they have a more holistic relationship to their environment, despite it being a tainted and polluted one. We’d go so far as to suspect they were a second experiment by our founders, in an attempt to deal with problems generated by us, their first experiment.”
He concludes as follows:
“Basically, we cannot reverse the original series of strong genetic changes our NoRunners did to us, so the next best thing we can do is to embrace further changes.”
Drake shakes his head, he was fairly certain that the biology of the ratmen made them more resistant but it had to be some sort of technology the barbarian ratmen possessed that kept them from degrading from the radiation and other pollutants in the environment. Maybe a shielded underground ship, city, bunker yes some sort of environmental bunker or… lab. Maybe he should contact the Antithesis’s AI with this information, let Drake investigate. Where was Patrick? no contact from him yet bothered Drake; unknown variables.
Myco fiddles with an artifact on one of the tables.
Yithson scolds him: “Don’t touch that!”
It was the remains to a cybernetic implant on a skull.
Drake takes interest; he sidles closer to the artifact. remote scan and download if possible.
Yithson takes it from him, inspecting the fragile piece for damage. After seeing that there is no damage he calms down and sets it back on the table.
“After a member of our kind dies, we check the logs of any computerized bits to see if the data will be useful later.” Several of the small mechanical limbs pry a chip from the housing of the implant. “This is the important part.”
Despite admonishing myco not to touch the skull, Yithson proceeds to manhandle several more components out of the cybernetic implant on it. One he seems to handle more delicately than the others though is a small orb with a matte finish that distinctly glows around the edges despite being opaque. “This is the most important part.” He holds it out for Drake to be able to look at if he chooses to. “A link to the NoRunners… sort of.”
Drake takes as close a look as he is allowed, his eyes dancing in excitement. This technology mirrored the ones found in his first lab. Meaning he could copy all data there without touching it. Drake types a message for Myco, You know I could reverse most of the degradation. I have their creators research mastered and improved.
Myco looks down at his wrist panel while trying to act discreetly about the whole thing and idly types out a response. You think so? Eh, maybe. I feel like their founder was something of a madman though.. and perhaps this society shares some of that ‘madness’? Probably keep it on the table as a possible bargaining chip.
Myco asks the keeper a question “I’d assume that it has great importance to your people?”
Yithson seems to light up about it… literally “Yes, this is the first piece to the implant, we embed them in newborns as part of a ceremony, before any other grafts or tech they may receive at later ages. If you were wondering where my translator is… I don’t have one. I’m from the generation where it was not small enough yet, so this entire museum houses one within part of its network.”
Meaning the extent of Yithson’s power is limited to in and around the nearby grounds to the museum.
“So you’re literally married to the job”, Drake laughs.
“Yes. I have my assistants bring me relics they find from outside, then I classify them and help them to interpret things. When I was younger I used to travel but these days I prefer my collections here. That translator is ubiquitous though, even ratlings have them though they generally tend to eschew most other body modifications.” He takes another look at Drake and Myco. “From your stature and means of carrying yourselves, I’d say you two are men of study from your homeplace too? Reminds me of when I was younger and had less replacement parts.”
“Yes men of learning and exploration.”
“Adventurers and inventors, right right.”
One may notice amongst the other details of this area is what appears to be an antique rail cannon. Smaller than the type used on mecha but larger than the tiny hand type. It probably went on a vehicle. It isn’t armed but has been humorously aimed to face pointing out the window. If you were to look out this window you’d see the courtyard below where a young ratman is making a toy out of some components he’d salvaged from a dumpster while his parents are collecting garbage, and if you looked even closer you’d see that on breaks they take swigs from bright green containers they keep on their person at all times and that they drink only from these, not any of the sludgy water from the external environment.
“Myco, Drake, there is a side to this city which probably hasn’t been revealed to you yet. One fanatical cult hopes to revive the remains of the brain of one of our founders. The rest of us are content to emulate the NoRunners with our own interpretation but these zealots … I fear, would use, if they could, however you two got here as a means to do something drastic.” Yithson has notes in his private cloister within this section suggesting the negaverse and our universe could have some ties and that if the fanatic cult figures these out, they may end up immolating both universes.
“I should hope neither of you were foolish enough to leave the gate you came through unguarded.”
“No, it’s pretty safe.” Drake sounds confident, before he moves farther into the museum. Drake looks idly about when he notices the bones of a living mech, he walks up and notices familiar scarring on the bones. He types into the data pad. Myco, I just came to the conclusion that our DNA wouldn’t be of any use to these people but a living mech’s… He glances to see Myco’s reaction before typing, You may want to make it back to the gate. And tell Drake to look for where the ratmen live, it’s either a shielded bunker, or lab of their creator… I’m certain of it. I’ll give you guys as much time as I can. Transferring my consciousness back to the Antithesis to be recorded as a new AI for Drake. "Good work Alpha. My nickname for you, which I hope you approve of. As far as clones go, you were pretty alright. If that’s the course of action you feel is most advantageous, I will go with it 100%."
“Yithson, I thank you for being a hospitable host to Drake and I. Your concerns about the Gate are valid. We did not know at the time the identity of the looming threat but assumed there would be one, so yes, we do have some guards posted at its edge. If your assistants could direct us to the quickest way out of the city back to the space island, that would be helpful. That way we could best coordinate our forces with those of Gom and Zeteg.”
“I understand completely.” Yithson pushes a button on his desk which opens a large trapdoor in the empty part of the floor, revealing an express tunnel beneath the museum his archaeological and anthropologist Antihuman mutant teams use for ferrying finds to the museum and artifact recovery equipment from it out to excavation sites. “At the end of this tunnel lies a hangar on the edge of the city which has some ships you may use to get back there. I’d suggest moving quickly. The fanatics no doubt have by this time detected fluctuations from the energy signatures which were emitted when you first arrived and are likely planning their first moves.”
“I would like to stay and see if I can help your people deal with the degradation, no need to ruin perfectly fine DNA. Well have you tried to reactivate dormant genes from your ancestors? I know of a variety of methods and am sure I can help your people repair the damage, but you should also stop using all those radioactive rocks and polluting your air and water.” Drake sidles over to a terminal.
Yithson scratches his chin with one of his many mechanical arms… “We have, but most records existing before the time of Kellek were either lost or destroyed. That is to say, our people’s genomes when we do find databases of them, they tend to be in “batches” based on a particular mutant generation. The original form from before we were experimented on… it seems all record of that was lost. However,... working backwards, I suppose one could build a sort of a reverse engineered incomplete/partial map based on those…”
“Ah but genetics is my expertise. The base is in there and with the right equipment I can find and activate the genes to restore the subject to what I like to call baseline, of course the subject would suffer insurmountable amounts of pain as their DNA is rewritten back to baseline. Chances of survival of subject I would say 40% but the process would, one give you the correct genomes needed to enact the change in embryos and two…”
“Hmm, I can call over some of our own geneticists and they could confer with you, probably get the survival rate up about another 10%” Yithson speculates “My colleagues would also be happy to loan you their sequencing equipment what’s more, I’m sure.” He shakes his head and laughs dejectedly on the second issue, making it obvious he feels an outsider would not understand “The matter of the radiation is a bit of a tougher nut to crack. You see, I’m afraid there is just too much social and bureaucratic inertia; It provides cheap, strong power. Our nuclear scientists have been arguing back and forth about the merits of fission versus fusion for some decades now in the capital’s chamber of commerce. You could try setting an appointment with the fusion lobby but their opposition in the fission lobby is much larger.”
Drake’s voice fades as Myco exits the facility.
The tunnel is long and other than the motorized hum of an overhead fan from its ventilation system there isn’t much else in the way of noise. Every small object dropped or knocked into seems to clang inordinately but that could just be in the travelers heads due to the urgency of their mission.

Small Flame Weapon Review
Requires minimum level of 17, costs 255 Ferrite, 204 Bioptics, 5 Crystal, or bulk buy 5 for 20 Crystal.. It does a damage of 18, and has a speed of 101. No abilities attached to this weapon. This is your straight up basic, run of the mill starter fire weapon. Later you get into variations on this theme with the double flame and square flame weapons (Which have abilities). But this is your go to quick and easy basic fire weapon for many lower tonnage mechs capable of such damage.

All of this doesn't mean you can't do some impressive numbers for damage, of course like all mechs it depends on how you set yours up, with which bonuses to your damage types by way of equipment. But it is what it says it is, a small flame so don't expect astronomical damage out of it right out of the box. Quick, simple, easy to use, it is your introduction to the world of pyromaniac weaponry.

Tricks Not Treats Weapon Review
For minimum level of 29, costing 740 Ferrite, 740 Bioptics, 39 Niodes, or buy in bulk 5 for 156 Niodes. They are currently sold out, and were a limited edition Halloween weapon that does damage of 66, with a speed of 106. Weapon abilities were Crit-kill of 6%, and 2x damage of 3%.
Not a bad little weapon with decent speed on it, not the fastest slug thrower out there but not a slouch either. The added abilities aren't terrible either, again not the best but once other equipment and mech build abilities are factored in not too shabby either. For the level minimum the damage is decent ,and easily compliments most slug thrower build type mechs. If you were one of the few who got a hold of this you'll know exactly how it fares in combat.

Drochah Raid Is Underway
Now that the second Faction war is over many clans have begun their raid. As usual there is some complaining on the game boards about unfair or uneven advantages of the raid mechs, as there is just about every raid. It is about fine tuning and no one will ever be truly happy with how the raids are presented or carried out I am convinced.
There are some new mechs in the enemy ranks this time out which were referred to as "infected" in conversation on the game page. Infected by what or whom is unknown at this time. Perhaps that will be made clear further down the line. They are mutated in appearance, having many spikes or huge dodge capabilities. Some resemble the pilot beloved Oggun but with Gatling gun arms as opposed to normal design which is simply holding a weapon.
They are labeled with Forerunner sounding names, and the raid is labeled as Drochah. So alien involvement seems highly likely. You will find full squads of Dino based mecha, these infected mecha, even Serp-Alpha scattered throughout the raid. Yet again the prizes are based on percentages and low ones at that leading many to believe the winners of the majority of mechs will yet again go to the strongest players allowing them to further consolidate their power within our Galaxy. Only time and the end of the raid will tell, be sure to watch the game board for both nonsensical and valid complaints both for and against the system as it stands now.

News From Artemis Molly
There may have been a small accident at Mecha Galaxy's main weapons facility...
The good news is that only a few smithies were injured and are well on their way to making a full recovery. The unfortunate news is that the specs for the old Lazerizer have been lost.
But the OTHER good news is that our smithies were quickly able to churn out a new Lazerizer that is essentially identical in all ways, although it looks pretty different...

But the OTHER good news is that our smithies were quickly able to churn out a new Lazerizer that is essentially identical in all ways, although it looks pretty different...
So if you see a "new"
Lazerizer in your hanger or in the shop, don't worry. It's not that
you've drank too many Hatoraides (we don't judge). It's the new and
improved, very much the same as before Lazerizer that you know and love.
We hope that you will welcome it into your hanger with all the same
loving care you gave the old Lazerizer. Happy hunting, everyone.
