Anzu Mecha Review

After the Red Any  there is this fifteen tonner the Anzu. It costs 375 Ferrite and 225 Bioptics, much like the Red Ant most starting pilots have quite a few of these in their line up and to pad their lines with additional numbers. Set up for using lasers and amplifying laser damage by its build this is your standard fare battle fodder. The build does have a draw back to it in the form of kick back. It will deal out extra damage on certain shots but those shots will damage the mecha in return. Any thing from a little damage, to shutdown of the mecha in battle, up to blowing it up on you can happen with the kick back ability.

This mecha seems to rely on a pilot going for the no risk no reward mentality. It is fast, if outfitted properly it can even be a pain to fight against especially if a higher level one hits the field outfitted with high end niode weapons. But you can count on sooner or later it will hit the kickback and either damage itself or just blow itself up in the process. For a starter pilot who needs to fill out their ranks they are cheap and easy to get a hold of. More seasoned pilots will most likely keep a few around for low tonnage tournaments, but very rarely will you see a higher level dust one of these off for serious in your face combat.

We Want Your Submissions

Hello all Pat Willis here owner, site creator, and Head Editor here at The Galaxy Gathering, just wanted to say a couple things if I may. First off over this weekend we hit  over 1,000 hits so thank you all for checking us out and seeing what we are all about. It's a great start and we're off and running it would seem.

Secondly I'd like to take a moment to talk about submissions. Submissions ideally should be at least a couple of paragraphs long minimum to a page or so maximum any where in between is great and ideal. Also we are loving the stories that have come in thus far so a huge thank you to those who have submitted. Is there anyone out there who does mecha, weapon, or equipment reviews? If so send us your stuff! We would love to read others ideas on what is available in the game. This is above all else a player resource we're here for you guys and gals. I've done a few weapon, equipment and mecha reviews so far on this site. But my word isn't law..lol. Got a different opinion on something go ahead and write it out, and send it in. We'd love to see what other players think of what is available in the game.

We are playing with the idea of adding a tips and tricks section. Got a winning equip and mecha combo you just think can not be beat? Got a build that is straight up awesome? Send it in we'd be happy to post it. If nothing else your ideas may help out newer players and increase the competition in game. I know folks are  protective about their builds so send in your second stringers if nothing else. A build that isn't god like but maybe was pretty good when you were whatever level and you just don't use it anymore. The stories and lore are awesome no doubt about it, I just would personally like to see more opinions of the things in game and maybe some technical aspects as well. We get enough in and the category will be made I assure you!

In closing thank you again for visiting and checking us out, a HUGE thank you to those who have submitted so far, and to those still on the fence hop on off and send us your submissions!! It's free niodes for you, as well as others reading your stuff win win all the way around. Thanks again, hope to see your submissions in our inbox real soon.

Still Waiting To Go Again

Three days!  It has been three days since Kig has let me power up my WarHorse.  I have been in it, on it and even under it.  I had a lot of cleaning to do. I found out the smell inside was a combination of a green fuzzy food, a dead animal (probably from eating the green fuzzy) and chunks from the last person who tried to pilot this mech.  This took me all day to get finished.  I had to take many breaks to get it done. The second day was spent on the bottom half of the mech.  It seems that my run was through a rancher's field.  I don't remember the livestock but the proof was there.

I had to use power tools to get all of the bone out of some of the places.  The pressure washer did the rest.  I was just happy that I did not need to unwrap the entrails by hand. The first half of today was with the pressure washer again.  Starting from the top and working my way down.   The hanger boys had a good laugh at me when the knocked me down. The afternoon was spent helping the hanger boys installing the Proto Beam.  I will be shooting tomorrow.  I am so excited.  I don't know if I will get to sleep tonight.

Dr. Drake's Raid Pre Festival Wars

Late night launching of a Drake Raid began, any in Europe would have an advantage as the pre FWs raid started as most would be getting up and ready for their day over there. It was the wee hours of Sunday morning when I noticed the pull, my faction leader wasn't online so he didn't pull it.

This seems to be a testing of sorts, the number of enemies to be killed has not risen even though our factions are at least 40 strong and may be as many as 50 per group. Few will have access to the 1200+ kills needed for the top prizes which include 2 mecha-the Smilodon or Rook and a hot rod engine for Division 1. At least 532 kills will earn a 5% chance at the Cindron and only 415 will gain you 20% chance at the famed Harmonic Disruptor.

Hope you all get into the Raid and may good fortune smile upon us all. Until the next report, I bid you safe travels and successful battles.

New Alliances

Genedi IV, The Muster Point.

Choking brick dust still hung in the air from the freighter's down draft as the boarding ramp lowered. Five figures walked down, squinting in the pale dawn light after weeks of shipboard illumination, their rumpled jump suits already picking up a patina of grime as they hefted their kit bags.

Three were identical, squabbling and grumbling amongst themselves as they stepped off the ramp.

"Geez...", started the first.

"What an absolute...", continued the second.

"Dump!", concluded the third.

"Could be worse, could be jungle again", observed the fourth, a young slender man with straight sandy colored hair plastered across his forehead.

The fifth, an older man running slightly to fat with thinning hair and an impressive mustache paused at the bottom, scanning the landscape with a practiced eye.
Warehouse buildings stood shattered as far as the eye could see, the roads and walkways cluttered with impact craters and debris mounds. A large area had been pushed flat, blade-dozers having been used to clear an impromptu landing pad and form the rubble into safety berms around the perimeter to protect the locals from thruster wash. From the look of some of the ground imprints they had used mecha to stamp down the hard core to flatten and compact it properly prior to use.

His eyes were drawn to the huge bright blue tarpaulin being used as in place of the fourth wall of a nearby factory building.

"I assume from the cunning use of camouflage that we should be reporting somewhere over there", he said sourly.

As the quintet began crunching across the strip, hawking up the dust gathering in the backs of their throats, they were hailed from one side. Glancing across they spotted two small figures clambering down the slope of the safety barriers, bright blue with what should have been bright white pants and boots if not for the permeating grime of the place. White forage caps bobbed as the pair came bounding across towards them, one of them flailing his arms wildly.

"Greetings!" yelled the first.

"Salutations!" exclaimed the second, arms still rotoring.

"Hello!" they finished in unison, skidding to a halt and kicking up more choking dust.

"Brilliant..." muttered the mustachioed man, then forced a smile as he stiffened to a form of attention and threw a salute to his erstwhile allies. "Members of Heroes second regiment, reporting for duty. I believe our commander John Dubya would have informed you of our impending arrival, so if you gents would be so kind as to direct us to his quarters we will get ourselves sorted."

"This is Smurftastic!" proclaimed the initial blue being in his high piping voice, "I have indeed been in contact with your John Dubya and he said he would be sending a detachment to provide heavy support! Welcome, welcome!"

Any reply was interrupted by the appearance of two more figures, females both, long hair flowing in the breeze and clad in tight hugging faux leather. They navigated the loose ground in improbably high healed boots. The overall effect was enough to pull the conversation up short.

"Whoa..." breathed the first triplet.

"Its like watching..." observed the second.

"...a snavurm in a four wheel drift" concluded the third.

"Hi boys", purred the taller one as they approached, her auburn hair settling to cover one eye, "have we missed the introductions?"

"My compliments ma'am," responded the older man, giving a small bow and clearing his throat. "Lieutenant Mac, Davey Mac, at your service. These three gentleman attempting to drown in their own drool are Trav two, three and four respectively, while this young man is..."

"My name is Skywise, I'm here to rescue you!" exploded the youngster excitedly.

"...Who has been practicing that line in the mirror for a week," Mac carried on smoothly while throwing his companion a flat look. "Second Heroes Regiment, on detachment with your forces for the duration of the upcoming conflict."

The redhead gave a beaming smile. "I'm Jess, and this is Ferbie. We're..."

"The Bunny Gir...Ouch!"

"Defenders of Bunny" Mac interrupted, stamping down on Sky's foot. "Your reputation as fearless and professional warriors precedes you," he said with emphasis, glaring at the youth.

"And allow me to welcome you formally to the Smurf Brigade," interjected the small blue being. "I am Commander Chaotic Pain Smurf, and this is my adjutant and communications officer Pio "Windmill" Smurf. Shall we proceed in getting you settled?" he said as he went to move off in the direction of the factory.

"A moment sir," Mac interjected. "There appears to be a few points of confusion. First, am I to understand that our commanding officer, John Dubya, is not actually here with you at present?"

Chaotic Pain looked nonplussed, before responding "Of course not. He is currently at Smurf Legion headquarters with the remainder of your regiment and from what I understand some elements of your first regiment. He diverted you to us to provide heavy support."

"I see," noted Mac carefully, "which brings me to my second point. We," he continued, waving a hand to indicate his companions, "are a light skirmish and recon detachment, not heavy support. The heaviest mechs at our disposal are a pair of Orresters, and one of those is still crated fresh from the production line".

"You've got Orresters?" inquired the shorter, dark haired Defender, her eyes wide. "I've never seen one that... big... before" she breathed.

The three Travs whimpered, while Skywise tried not to bite through his own tongue.

"Oh, good grief," muttered Mac in a disgusted voice.

"Indeed," observed Chaotic Smurf, gulping and wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead, "as Miss Ferbie has indicated yours will indeed be the heaviest units in our faction."

"Excellent," beamed Mac, sincerity plastered falsely across his face. "If you could excuse us for a moment, I need to very quickly discuss this turn of events with my colleagues. Shan't be a moment," he concluded as he herded the other Heroes away into a small huddle.

"Well this, as they say in these parts, is a right Smurf up..." he stated to the group in a low voice. "I will get in touch with the boss as soon as we can find a working comm-link, however for the time being we must assume we will be here for the duration. We being the only members of Heroes in this area, as senior pilot I'm going to be the one having to report back. And bearing this in mind, let us set some ground rules. I do not wish to have to make any reports that include the word fraternization, especially if Mrs Trav is in a position to read them," he directed his remarks at the triplets. "Any failure on your part will also include within the report certain details regarding, how should I put it, illicit reading material hidden in the lining of your iMech's pilot chairs, yes?" he stated as the Trav's turned grey. He continued mercilessly, "Even with three heads, I feel you would be hard pressed to convince her that issues of 'Big and Bouncy' actually refer to trade catalogs for an Ammonite Shock Absorber system," proving his information was spot on.

He locked gaze with Skywise, and then looked pointedly across at the ladies close by. "Nor, and I really must insist on this, am I going to tolerate the use of the word "cockpit" in any form of jocularity, are we clear on that point? Good..."

As they returned to their allies, Mac noticed a certain wariness had come over the waiting group, coupled with some furtive glances towards the Travs. As they were led towards their new headquarters, it was Jess who broke the silence, directing a question towards the trio.

"So if you guys are Trav two, three and four, where's number one?"

"He's up the line with the wife, he got..."

"...Rostered on to husband duties this week. Looks like he's..."

"...Going to have to pull a few extra shifts this time if we've been split up," the Travs responded in turn.

"So how come there's more than one of you?" inquired Pio, arms still whirling.

"Oh, we picked up the extra's after a run in with Dr Drake" Sky cut in, "They were wandering around the complex looking all confused. They got even more confused when Mrs Trav started yelling at them... they'd only been out of the cloning tank a few hours and they suddenly had to deal with that!" He gave a mock shudder, then started suddenly as he noticed their group was surrounded by dark figures who were observing their progress silently, each standing alone around the perimeter of the landing field and previously hidden by the dust clouds.

"Easy tiger," smiled Jess as she noticed his darting gaze, "They're friendlies."

"The fourth contingent of our Brigade," explained Pio, "Those are the Exiles."

"So why are they just standing out of the way looking all creepy at us?" asked Sky.

Jess chuckled, "And which part of the word Exile didn't you understand?"

A gentle hand on Mac's arm caused him to slow his pace, Chaotic Pain waiting while the rest of the group drew away before he stated uneasily, "Lieutenant, there may be a concern that I need to make you aware of. It concerns the clones."

He took Mac's raised eyebrow as permission to continue. "Um, you see, they weren't the only ones that were recovered after the fight with Doctor Drake. The point is, well, there's no easy way to say this, so I won't Smurf about the bush, but... Drake is here. He swapped sides and he's fighting for us now. Is that going to cause any problems?"

Mac's shoulders sagged. "Wonderful," he sighed to himself. "Welcome to the Faction Wars."

Official In Game Lore

It is the year 3296. Thousands of planets are linked by trade and war through a network of gateways left behind by a lost civilization. As far as is known, these advanced "Forerunners" have utterly departed, leaving only their technology to haunt men's ambition.

The structure of intragalactic politics has shifted to reflect the strategic reality of point-to-point transport through Forerunner gateways. Force must be projected one mech squadron at a time, and a quasi-feudal order prevails. Clans of skilled warlords maintain trade and piracy networks across disconnected star systems, secured only by the skill of the elite mecha warriors they lead.

The gates have opened the surfaces of distant worlds to exploration, and vast new territory awaits discovery. In this wide and splintered arena, anyone can achieve domination, provided their boldness (and their cunning) is great enough.

What follows is required reading for all mecha pilots who would test their mettle in Mecha Galaxy.

Technology

Niodes

The rare metal niobium can be used to create "niodes," a technology with several applications in the MG universe. A niode looks like a stainless steel sphere the size of a baseball.
A niode can be used as a battery to store arbitrarily large amounts of "Lisi energy" which can be used to run mecha and other devices. Note that though a niode may store as much energy as you wish to put into it, there is a power limit to how quickly you can pull energy out of an individual niode. For more power, you need more niodes.

A niode can hold the transport signatures for gateways. Niodes can be linked together into niode matrices, which have two important applications.

First, a niode matrix is necessary for travel through a gateway.

Second, niodes in a matrix can serve as strong, fast, precise actuators in machinery; you encase a niode in a ball-and-socket joint and use strong local magnetic fields generated through the niode to reposition the joint. This is a fundamental enabling technology for mechas, making it possible for them to move as gracefully as a living creature. Niode actuators need a human operator, since a mind is required to interact with the quantum wave state of the Lisi energy in the niode matrix, an the operator must be inside the polyhedron described by the the niodes in a matrix to control those niodes, which is why mecha are piloted rather than controlled by computers or remote operators.

Most niodes are manufactured from raw niobium, but niodes constructed by the Forerunners are also sometimes found. These can be valuable because they may contain the signatures of gateways, including as-yet-undiscovered gateways. Forerunner niodes may have other extraordinary properties as well.
Niode matrices can be reconstructed, adding or removing niodes as desired, but this is an involved enough procedure that it cannot be done quickly in the field.

Mecha

A mecha or "mech" is a big robot containing a human pilot. Mecha commonly take a roughly humanoid form, though other arrangements are possible, including wheeled vehicles and animal forms. The typical mecha is about 10-15 meters high. Mecha can be much larger, though mechs taller than 15 meters high will not be able to crouch down small enough to fit into a gateway's transport envelope, so these are rarely considered practical.

Piloting a mech requires a combination of a neurological talent (possessed by about 1% of the population) and rigorous training. A mech pilot wears a rig -- a "neural link" -- which gives him direct mental control over the numerous niode actuators in the mecha's joints. The pilot's ability to control his mech is dependent on visualizing the relationships between the actuators; this is the primary reason why mecha generally take human-like forms. Sensors in the mecha can provide feedback through the neural link so that the pilot can see through the mech's camera eyes, hear through its radio, et cetera. Thus the pilot comes to think of a mecha as an extension of his own body.

The more niodes employed in the structure of a mecha, the more gracefully it can move. More niodes in a mech also allow it to support more electronics and more powerful weapons.
Mecha are very strong. An ordinary mecha can easily lift a car, uproot a tree, or demolish a house "barehanded." Niode actuator strength is great but not unlimited, though most often the limiting factor in a mecha's strength is the structure of the mecha's "skeleton." Exceptionally strong mecha may use more niodes in their construction.

A mecha, being several tons of fast-moving steel, serves as a weapon in and of itself but battle mechs are typically outfitted with a range of weapons controlled and powered by the mech's niode matrix. Some mecha employ projectile weapons, but because niodes can store so much energy, they generally include various kinds of directed energy weapons. (Note that rail guns are effectively directed energy weapons for this purpose, delivering very small projectiles at extremely high velocity.) Exceptionally powerful directed energy weapons can test the limits of power that can be drawn from a mecha's niodes, requiring more niodes in the mech's construction. Many mechs also have blades and other hand-to-hand weapons for close combat with other mechs.

Mecha tend to operate in squads of 5-20. Major engagements may involve companies of about a dozen such squads. During the Second Galactic War, the Battle of Lem featured several thousand-mech battalions on each side, but few believe that a battle of that scale will ever be fought again.

Neuroptics

Highly adaptable neural network technologies using optical computing rather than silicon. Dedicated laboratories grow Neuroptics in tangled masses like cotton candy. When mushed together, the neural nets automatically link up to form multipurpose algorithmic technology. These lumps can then be "trained" to function as processing power, data storage, or communication cables. These advances in organic computers allowed the creation of the helmet rigs worn by gifted Mech pilots.

Ferronite

For centuries, mankind had built with steel, an iron-based alloy doped with other elements to make the molecular structure of the iron stronger. Ferronite, in contrast, is very pure iron threaded with iron nano-crystals which are fantastically strong. First discovered on Earth in AD 1988, it could only be made by the micorgram. Centuries later, the Illyrians were able to produce it by the ton.
Ferronite is expensive to manufacture, and once "cast" it cannot be malleably re-shaped like ordinary metals, though it can be cut to shape using the right equipment. This limits its scrap value from dead mechs; any ferronite parts you re-use have to be cut down to suit their new application. Ferronite's strength makes it essential for structural components of mechs and for machine parts used for a range of applications.

Gateways

A gateway is a teleportation device left behind by the Forerunners which enables instantaneous travel between planets using a wormhole. Known planets typically have several gateways, though planets with only a single gateway, or with dozens, are not uncommon. Gateways are often, though not always, placed in clusters several hundred yards apart from one another.

Each gateway is a triangular platform twelve meters across; objects transported by the gateway must fit into the "transport envelope," the tetrahedral pyramid implied by the gateway platform, limiting the size of things which can be transported.

To be transported, an object must have a niode matrix; the more massive the object transported, the more niodes the matrix must include. Though the niodes used in mecha will work for this most transport is done using shipping cubes with a matrix embedded in them.

A typical gateway is linked to several other gateways distributed throughout the galaxy (or even on the same planet). Some gateways link only to a few others, while other gateways may link to a hundred others or more. Note that different gateways on a given planet may or may not link to the same gateway on another planet; thus to go from Planet A to Planet B, it may be necessary to gate to Planet C, travel overland to a different gateway on Planet C, and then gate from there to Planet B.

A link between gateways is not enough; to travel from gateway A to gateway B, you need a niode imprinted with the signature of gateway B. If a niode has been imprinted with the signature of a gateway, it may be used to gate to that receiving gateway from any gateway linked to it. Niodes acquire a gateway's signature by "touching" the gateway by entering the tetrahedral active space above it. (Note that this means that all gateways on new planets are found using legacy niodes left behind by the Forerunners.) There is no known limit to the number of signatures a niode may store.

Objects do not collide when something gates through to a gateway; a forcefield pushes everything out of a receiving gate a moment before anything comes through.

No known force can destroy a gateway. In a desperate move, the Illyrians once tried a direct hit from a thermonuclear weapon to kill a gateway. The nuclear strike temporarily disabled the gateway but did not destroy it; after a few weeks it began to function again.

Gateways cannot be moved. They are tightly locked to the space-time deformations created by an entire planet's mass; to dislodge them would effectively require destroying the planet.
When a niode matrix travels through a gateway, it needs several hours to recover before it can use that gateway again, though it can use another gateway right away. This appears to be part of why the Forerunners clustered gateways as they did.

Simple sensors can be constructed which can detect unseen gateways at a range of a few hundred yards; most mecha are equipped with these. But no known technology permits the long-range detection of gateways. As a result, there are new gateways discovered on planets all of the time, making the "geography" of the galaxy change, sometimes dramatically.

The Balance of Power

The technologies of niodes, mecha, and gateways combine to create a galaxy of clannish politics.
The structure of intragalactic politics has shifted to reflect the strategic reality of point-to-point gateway transport. Force must be projected one mech squadron at a time. A quasi-feudal order has grown, as clans of skilled warlords maintain trade and piracy networks across disconnected star systems. These clans are secured only by the awesome combat skills of the elite warriors they lead.

Nation-states as we know them are impossible: the bottlenecks of gateways prevent massing large armies, and the weird networked "geography" of planets created by gateway connections renders territorial borders well-nigh meaningless. It is also tactically impossible to completely secure a gateway, as anything can come through it, though in practice a gateway site of course can be forcefully occupied, giving it great strategic value.

Between the instability created by this geography and the hunger for niobium, the political situation is in constant flux. With geography and mecha technology unfriendly to large modern armies, small squads of mechas can project great power, and can operate with great independence. Meanwhile, the areas near gate sites tend to function as city-states with protectorate relationships with small bands of mecha pilots, called clans.

There are three main galaxy wide alliances among the clans: The Illyrian Hegemony, The Meiji Shogunate, and The Society of Cogwerk Planets. These three factions claim relationships with the clans on about half the planets in the known galaxy, though many of those relationships are loose, with mercenaries and local protectorates dropping in and out of these alliances as circumstances change.

Of the un-allied planets, about a third are properly settled, under the protection of independent clans. The Three Alliances would like to claim these territories, but there are not resources enough to sweep them all up. The remaining un-allied planets are effectively "wilderness," dotted with small outposts and roamed by bandit clans. Most of these clans are small, though there are some midsized alliances: the Clarke Federation binds eleven resource-rich planets in an alliance, and Blackwing is a bandit chieftain who brags three hundred mecha under his command.

The Three Alliances engage in endless brush fire conflicts, fighting to tame the wilderness planets and wrestling with each other over territory and resources. Many small mercenary squads of mecha make temporary pacts with Three Alliances when it suits them, flying the flag (or rather, wearing the transponder) of the alliance and swearing to fight their enemies, much as privateers did in the Golden Age of Piracy.

Breaking News By Molliere DAffue

Over the whole Galaxy factions have come to arise and are preparing for massive battles. It is still unclear but it looks like the big Faction's will be facing one another for half of the world's known planet's in the galaxy. The smaller factions will be facing one another for about 20 % of the world's unknown planets. Unfortunately word has gotten out that a snare has been set up by the Craftsmen, but nobody is sure about it yet. The wars have caused a lot of mayhem in the divine factions not only because of the short time for perpetration but also the lack of info on who is the current enemy. Most factions have found loop holes in enemy's organizations and have calculated the very best outcome, and assembling of their units. Many have not and a bad destiny awaits them as most factions units will lose tons of High powered niode mechas and will have to replace them. So now would be the time to switch jobs and go work for a mecha company  where a lot of $$$  awaits you.

End transmission

Diary of Deanne Roland

First day in a Mech I am starting a new journal today because I know I have started a new stage of my life.  I was put in a WarHorse.  A machine  that instantly transformed me into an adult. The term instantly is a relative term.  It took me ten minutes to overcome the feeling a nausea from the smell.  Definitely not a new Mech.  I did not want to know what was done .

Kig brought me back to focus.  He's the man who put me in this.  It took me more than a few moments to get strapped into the seat.  I could have done it faster if he would just stop bitchin at me. When I finally found the right power switch I could feel everything in me change.  The surge of power went through me as the jolt of movement made every part of my body vibrate. After fifteen minutes of Kig's special brand of encouragement I took my first steep.  I soon had that horse in a gallop. It felt GREAT!

Kig did not seem to like my little run.  He called me back saying he would "fry my ass".  What an old man. As I left for the day I did hear him tell the hanger boys to put a laser on that horse.  I think I will get some target practice tomorrow.  I cannot wait.
I feel alive!

The Torrent Mecha Review

This is one of the big boy toys right off the bat with a equally big price tag attached. It will run you 13,000 Ferrite, 8,000 Bioptics and  145 Niodes to bring one into your hanger. As always the main question is of course is it worth it? In this humble writers personal opinion the answer is an unequivocal yes. This mecha features multi targeting system which means in game terms it has not only the Fork ability but also Wide Fork! As always such can be modified to a degree with proper equipment load out.

This is a true game changer and as such is one solid mecha on the battlefield in just about any position or formation. One of the best spots is right up in the front line as it also sports Trample damage. Multiples of this mecha in your formations will often reduce enemy lines to so much scrap in no time flat. It also carries times two and times three damage abilities with laser as well as ice damage boosts and comes with  built in laser and fire shields. This mecha is true monstrosity and owns the battlefield from the moment it touches down. No self respecting pilot should be without at least one in his or her hanger.
