Born from the anti-war movement, Illyran Hegemony chief scientist Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was trapped in his car during the demonstration at Sverdalosk. While his car was rocked back and forth, he listened to the chant of “War Pig! War Pig! War Pig” as the protesters blasted some pre space song by a group called Black Sabbath called War Pig, a glimpse into the future of war machines not yet born. Listening to the protestors talk about the brutality of human mecha, Raputin was moved. Opening his car, he climbed out to listen to hear humanities machines described not as graceful predators, honest hunters like the Forerunner mecha, but brutal killing machines. Nothing but brutal engines of destruction, blunt instruments that existed for no purpose other than killing.
Falling to his knees, he screamed “Da, yes, its true its all true” and closed his eyes. The protestors assumed he was recanting his mech loving ways. The opposite was true, he had opened his eyes to the ultimate end of human engineering. Forerunners used elegance and advanced science to make rapiers and sabers of ceremetal and steel, where humanity was never happier than with a gore spattered axe, and a helm to bury it in. Kneeling in the midst of the protestors, he had already begun the plans for the ultimate expression of mankinds love of war. Brute force was what humanity embraced, and the ultimate human mecha must embody not elegance or grace, but brute force, a hard unyielding fury, the blood mad rage of the wild boar who will charge upon his foes in a straight line, and let nothing stop him. The War Pig was born.

*Special thanks to the Games Workshop for my borrowing the image of one of their fine miniatures from a table top game a few of us here in Mecha Galaxy also have been known to play.
