The First Mission By Cher MechaGalaxy Lee #875837

Day 01, 0 6 : 2 3

I've been here for months and winter has not yet felt. It is the coldest winter I've ever lived to tell. Hopefully live pass this ice age hell. It has been -62 degree since they last 7 months and I've seen worse. We are running out of food, heat, ammunition, and Pilots. Each one of us dying by the moment. Even with this mad dry coldest we still battle. With these things that we now call it Stone Beetles. These Stone Beetles are as hard as a Stone and they look like a giant beetle that would tear you apart. If I knew I could tell you, but their armor are unique unlike any other creature I've ever seen. The armor seems to be made of some weird stone mix with unidentified material. It takes about 3 Aspis to take it down. You must be wounding how on the galaxy of hell did this happened to us? Unlike other mission this mission was a top secret mission.

Santa evil helpers as we all know are working against us. Our mission was to obtain one of the 6 Gateways in order to travel through galaxy in a matter of seconds. It was to send army of newly advanced Aspis Mecha in order to destroy and control enemy base. Our mission was partially complete. We did obtain two of the 6 Gateways and we did destroy and control our enemy bases. The only problem was we were not ready. You would think that Aspis with it's fire power it could double it's damage against any mecha and destroy them in a matter of a few hit fire. Well . . . you thought right, but that didn't stop the Boreas, our enemy had from firing and freezing our mecha into dry ice. They not only destroy over half our crew but freeze and destroyed a chip of which the Gateway needed in order to travel through correct space and speed.

If the chip was removed or destroyed in any shape or form it would send the object that would enter the Gateway in a continues lope in the lost space of time. It could also send you into the middle of a black hole and who knows where the hell that takes you. Even with those dumb Boreas ruining our master plan we were able to manage to take down the enemy lines and took over the base. My commander wanted to "BSU" but Chris Zimmer a former Dragon member insisted not to "BSU" and let one Boreas be fully operational that way he could test out it's weakness. On that day, December 26, 3304 we won the battle against the unknown units but lost over half of Pilot power and Mecha tonnage. We were lucky enough to have our two greatest engineer Fj Bros and Chris Zimmer. We savage for mecha remains and try to rebuilt some kind of defense.

We went from 80,000 tonnage before the battle to 34,000 tonnage after the battle. After a crew of 3 went to savage for left over mecha part we were able to repair 4 Aspis and 6 Boreas. It didn't take us long to understand the power of a Boreas. The only reason why we are able to survive was because the Boreas has a cold temperature defense on the inside. The cold Temperature defense separate the Cold from Hot. It also uses the Cold temperature as a power source.

Day 96, 0 6 : 2 3

It seems like the time never change. It's been 95 days since I last recorded. Today could have been just like any other day miserable, lost of hope, depress, and fully of anger. I mean come on how the hell can you not fix a chip. It's a simile as chip and even as complicate as a mecha. It's just another day of cold and misery.

Day 97, 0 6 : 2 3

I swear life can't get any worse. Our main Boreas has a disconnection. I don't know what that means all I know is it does not function no more. It's just a sitting target, so we called it the sitting target. One of our old crew member Todd Rainy didn't make it. He froze to death, but it was a matter of time before everyone was going to freeze to death. Todd Rainy used an old fashion Aspis that had good heater so I took it over in order for Aspis to serve the purpose. No Mecha left behind.

Day 98, 0 6 : 2 3

I now realize that my time has been frozen since day one. Unlike any other day I went inside of the original Boreas that Chris Zimmer saved from being destroy, the "sitting target" I found this small light flashing slowing on and off. I went closer to it. It looks like a chip that was used for it. I took it out and showed it to our Gateway specialist, Mr. Bear, he told us that this chip could be our way back home. All this time the one thing that could have saved us was right in front of us.

Mr. Bear or David Bear was able to fix the the Gateway and use the chip. When we activated the Gateway it had some kind of sonic wave. The wave was not a normal wave. It malfunction all of our Mecha but the Boreas. As soon as our Mecha was re-functioning everything turn red. The snow melted in minutes and the temperature jump from -69 to 39 degrees. We all felt relieved from the ice age for a second or so, but it kept getting hotter.

Day 100, 1 3 : 0 2

I watch works now and it's burning. 72 degree and I am sweating like a pig. I mean really sweating like a pig. I feel like it's 110 degrees but I'm not sweating at all. My commander told everyone to enter the Gateway and to go back in order to report back of our mission. Chris, Fj, and I went to take all of the Boreas that was left back because it was in shutdown from the heat. The ground started having level 10 earthquakes. That wasn't the worst part we were on top of an volcano, which would make since that it started to heat up fast. We grab the Boreas using the broken chip and it gave us a little kick. It was just enough to get close to the gateway. Using my Aspis I shot one solid blast behind the Boreas, but far enough not to cause any permanent damage and to have the blast wave to kick the Boreas into the Gateway. In the final Seconds the level 10 Earthquake took me under and as the last crew went in not knowing that I was swallow by the plant.

 Day XX, X X : X X

I am still alive . . . Save me oh Mecha.

Other Mechs by David McCallum #701548

It's been a while, but you may remember that apart from Mecha Galaxy, there are other war games that I play. They involve using, what my wife indulgently calls, toy soldiers.

Some of the models I make are of a larger scale, but I have recently (thanks to certain clan mates) taken an interest in smaller scale models.

This led me to three things....

1. My search for suitable models found some which are within pocket money range of most folk, so if you love mechs, why not get some?

2. Painted always looks better than unpainted, so maybe people would want to know how to do so in a simple manner...

3. Some of us are getting to ... a certain age... whereby detailed painting is not something we can do much of, either due to eyesight or other appendages beginning to... do their own thing. So any paint scheme needs to be easy enough for us codgers to get away with.

So, if you want some of your own "toy soldiers", here you go. The ones used in the following photographs are mechs from EM4 Miniatures. Extremely reasonably priced, although at the cost of being a tad generic. They are sized at 25-30 mm scale.

The ones shown here have been built up as the equivalent of the Robotech Defender/Battletech Rifleman and the Robotech Phalanx/Battletech Longbow. They could however stand in for perhaps a Buchis and a Dread if you wanted as the weapons are similair.

Note: This is not an in depth painting guide with tutorials in different techniques. Any special techniques will be displayed in italic bold so that you can Google the term for further information.

So lets dive straight in.

I've assembled 3 mechs, given them a quick grey undercoat with a cheap spray can of primer, then painted the base colours.

Detailing is relatively scarce so as to keep the paint scheme simple. Apart from the all over paint scheme, the only things of different colour are weapon barrels and missiles that have been base-coated black and drybrushed silver, silver cockpit canopies, white on insignia plates and some block colour for unit markings.

So at this stage, you have a pristine mech as it walks off the production line. To be honest, good enough for a first attempt at this stage, and you could actually stop there. But no war machine stays pristine for long.

Here, I have used straight grey to expose undercoat where paint has been chipped away by barging through obstacles in combat. Just make not to get it only on raised areas or corners, and pay special attention to the feet and legs as they are most prone to wear.

Now I have used silver on those same areas to show that the paint has been stripped back to bare metal. I haven't attempted to completely cover the grey, so we have some areas where it has been stripped only to undercoat and other deeper scratches which completely bring it back to the base metal of the mech.

I particularly like this stage as it is counter intuitive; from bottom to top it should go metal - undercoat - top coat but we have actually applied them in the reverse order for ease... its just our mind that reverses things to see what we know should be correct.

I have now applied an ink wash in a slightly darker brown than the base coats. This will fill darker in the detail areas to make the detail stand out by shadowing it, while muting the other colours to make them less stark.

I have used brown regardless of the base coat used. Yes, in advanced painting you can use darker shades of whatever base colour you use, but in a simple paint scheme a brown wash shades any colour except perhaps blacks or dark greys.... it's like applying a sepia filter to a photograph.

We are now getting even more battle worn. The gun barrels have been blacked out to signify them being hollow. An orange ink has been used around exposed bare metal to signify new rust, remembering to start at the metal then paint downward to show that rusty water has stained downward. I have also stippled the gun barrels with grey, then black closest to the muzzle to "soot" them and show they have been fired.

With the painting almost complete, I have now turned my attention to the base. It needs to be disguised so it looks like actual ground, and most modelers use some form of texture material for that.

The mix I have used is one that I use for a lot of modern / sci-fi figures. It consists of sand, fine model railway ballast, fish tank coral and pieces of cut up model sprue. This mix also has some small aluminium pieces that I picked up in a metal work shop.

To glue it in place, use a mix of PVA glue and water with a dash of detergent. The detergent breaks the surface tension of the liquid and allows it to flow better around the basing material to bind it together.

The end is in sight.

The base got a coat of black and was then drybrushed grey. To blend the mech with the terrain it is moving through, I used the same grey stippled around the feet and lower legs where dust and dirt has been kicked up. Remember that in real life, a person or vehicle that flicks up mud while travelling tends to get more up the back than the front. so pay special attention there.

I also did a little spot color on the missile tips to emphasise them. Oh, and don't forget clan markings on the insignia plate, which I cheated with and used a 0.3 mm fine line pen for rather than a paint brush.

So no excuse people... go get yourself some mechs to adorn your play area!

Kenneth Hicks #846092, Foot soldier of the Dragon Clans reporting

Rizpah:

The Emerald Clan had been stationed on the Jungle Moon for two cycles now. Using the sweltering canopy for cover, the Emerald Dragons have been using the time to gear up their new mechs that they won in the Clan War of 3304 and training the new recruits.

Private Carlos Hicks has been awake since 3a.m., getting ammo loaded into mechs for the day’s training run. Grunting under the weight of the boxes of deadly cargo, he shoulders them one at a time onto the auto loaders, sending them up into the armored holds of the sleek machines.

“Prophet’s taint! I’m okay with being the damn gopher around here, but could they at least pick a more hospitable place for us to do this grunt work at…”

Ever since an incident in the forest around Evil Santa’s stronghold, Carlos was on the Clan’s extra duty roster. He’d kept his chin up, as he understood that getting drunk and accidentally killing a coworker is a serious offense, and he’s lucky not to be strapped to the outside of a Scout Anzu as his punishment, but he just felt he was meant for greater things than ammo bearer and Snavrum skinner.

At the moment, he was loading up Ferrite Rounds into one of the new Smilodons his clan managed to get a hold of. Sleek and deadly, the Smilodon resembled the Great Cat of lore, packing Galaxy Eyes and Ferrite Storms for armament. The faint smell of creosote could still be detected as the parts were still sealed in casings and unassembled when they were found. A rare treat to some lucky mech pilot.

Carlos was gazing up into the deadly visage, wondering if he detected a glimpse of intelligence in those big, yellow eyes, when the world around him erupted into fire, dirt, and concussive forces.

A squad of scout mechs burst forth from the perimeter bearing the markings of the Hegemony. Two Namtars, two Luisons, a handful of Warhorses and Anzus and a heavily front armored Keradon broke cover and started fanning out, blasting everything they could.

Carlos was propelled into the air and miraculously into the cockpit port of the Smilodon head first. Jarring his shoulder, he fell through the portal, past the pilot harness to the deck of the cockpit. As luck would have it, he landed head first on the neural uplink set, which had been latched to the side of the harness until his flailing form knocked it loose.

“What is your bidding?”

Disoriented, in pain, ears ringing, Carlos had zero time to wonder what this voice was in his head, he just answered naturally “Get them to quit firing at me! What the Frack man! I’m just trying to service these mechs!”

“And we appreciate that. I shall stop their firing now.”

Leaping forward into the air, the Smilodon’s twin Galaxy Eyes cut loose on two of the Warhorses, scoring quick critical hits on both, ammo stocks exploding, blowing up the sturdy little mechs from the inside out.

Almost simultaneously, the Ferrite Storms erupted, throwing needles of death through the Namtars which had been holding back, directing the assault. The first Namtar turned to confetti as the second one suffered a knockback from it’s loading mechanism, and accidentally blew up an Anzu that was close by.

Now the scouting party was in disarray. They had thought this would be an easy kill as no pilots had reported to the surface yet, according to the transmissions they had intercepted, but in a brief second, this rogue Smilodon had shredded the group.

The Luisons and the Keradon attempt to lay down suppressing fire for the smaller mechs to get back into the jungle, launching volleys of Quad Rockets and Rail Guns at the Great Cat.

The Smilodon then pulled a new maneuver, rolling left like a big dog, the Smilodon closed with one of the Anzus unexpectedly. Swatting it with a foreleg, the Anzu went flying, connecting with a Luison and exploding against the cockpit, taking out both in a fireball. Now the Smilodon is able to trade fire with the remaining Luison and Keradon.

As the second Luison turned into confetti, the Keradon powered down and the cockpit lid popped open. A Hegemon officer stuck his hand up through the opening with a white piece of cloth, signaling that he’d had enough.

“All targets have ceased fire.”

Carlos, who had been rolling around on the deck like a marble whimpered a thank you.
His ear flinched as the static crackle of his com opened up.

“Carlos! We just got word! We’ll be surface side in 3, coming in hot! How are you holding?”

Daniel Rader was the leader of the Emerald Clan, and the worry in his voice was apparent. If he lost
all the upgrades to a Hegemony strike team, there’d be hell to pay. He had gotten too cozy with their base of operations.

“Honestly sir, I don’t know what happened. I was loading ammo, then the world exploded, and I ended up in this Big Cat’s head with a voice coming from somewhere, now it’s quiet. Can you come get me? I’m scared and have no idea what’s going on.”

After a minute, Major Rader responded. “Well Carlos, it looks like the sun shines on a Snavrum’s scales every once in a while. Congratulations on your promotion, the Smilodon informed us you are it’s new pilot of choice. Welcome to the Cadre Captain Carlos.”

“What. The Holy Frack. Just happened…”

“I shall serve you well in all future hunts. Now let’s go for a run. I was in those boxes far too long.”
Carlos wiped his brow, strapped into the harness properly, and started his transition to mech pilot.

The Missing Pilot Part 1 By Joshua Bourne #702128

The year was 3304 and all were cheering in rejoice. Evil Santa had been vanquished, and his demonic helpers sent back to the North Pole on Vupa 5. Parades of mechas and War Heroes filled the streets with citizens partying the night away. The Cities were as busy as ever, as neighboring populations and ships came by to enjoy in the festivities which were open. However, as of every planet, it has its ever watchful Guards, police and military on watch, in case something happened.

This may be a time to celebrate, but this is also a time to keep cautious. As through the crowds of people, anything can happen in a flash. The dark alleyways remain unwanted and abandoned, left to the more, unlucky of the populace to take refuge. They may be happy to be saved from the Heroes of the War, but it doesnt mean they are out tonight to celebrate like everyone else. Gangs of people fill the poorer, dirtier parts of the cities, making it their "turf" and keeping an ever open eye on their land. Anyone unlucky enough to come through will receive the same treatment as anyone else. Patrols of police go over such areas, in case they spot a crime in progress, however one such patrol finds something much more than that tonight.

Within layer 7 of Zone B, they find the most peculiar sight. A mecha. Not a common Ant or Shocklite that the Gangs tent to use however, but a Trooper. Its pearl white paint shining in the gloomy night of the area. As the officials come closer to the Trooper, they see that there are parts on the ground in front of it. Control Panels, gears, even the seat is thrown out. But the eery silence of the night is not broken. Clearly this has happened a fair while that they got here. One officer looks at the front of the mecha and finds no sign of a fight. No scorch marks, bullet holes or blast indicators to show there was a struggle or a fight. Instead, an empty mecha with the innards scavenged and thrown out of it.

One Screen within the Cockpit is still functional as it flickers on and off, signs of a power shortage
seems to be the reason for this as sparks shoot out of the exposed wires. A Message is on the screen in front of the officer as he reads out the message to his fellow officers cautiously approaching and making sure the area is clear. "Dear Subject 407, times dictate that we require your assistance with a certain problem. One that has been in our side for a while now. You know where to find us." There seems to be no indication as to who sent the message, and no way of tracing it without the imprint of the original pilot to access the data-banks. Its time to call this in, and to get the professional detectives into the picture

The Galaxy Is Changing By Pat Willis#224534

As many of you know originally I was with the other network A.N.N.  Soon I was making this site and creating Galaxy Gathering, during that time another of the A.N.N. staff came over to my side of the street to work here.

The Mother Superior of the Brotherhood itself, Deborah Roaché-Hudak was my first co-worker here at G.G. Eventually she left our offices and who should step up to take her place? My recruiter into the Brotherhood KiloTone Recoil, that's who. Eventually the duties of Brotherhood command weighed on him also and he departed from our offices.

Then we come to Sgt. Ron Frye / Monk Malone, he was next in the G.G. offices and also a Brotherhood member. But he had things in life to attend to and is now with us in more of an emergency capacity, so he is semi-retired from us basically.

This leaves me and David, a Brotherhood member, and a Heroes member together totally even. No majority Brotherhood support, or vote. We may be stirring up the pot even more by adding another editor very soon.

So I guess change has come to the Galaxy Gathering offices, we are now more of a publicly controlled news company, than a private one. I have always said we are here for the players and I have always meant it, just now it will be reflected more in the staff as it won't be majority Brotherhood members. Allow me to say David is an awesome editor and a hell of a nice guy. (For a non Brotherhood member) So we shall see what we shall see, but  aside from myself here at G.G. the Brotherhood has left the building.

Green Manalishi Weapon Review By Molliere Daffue #599258

The Green Manalishi is a new limited testing weapon that is on the market for all mech junkies above lv 8 and only 150 have been made. The designer of Green Manalishi is unknown but it has been stipulated that the designer also made the AHI Missile. It’s unknown as to how this weapon was designed, most scientists believe that it was an experiment that has gone so horribly wrong that it actually worked.

The Green Manalishi is an elite missile weapon with a base damage of 33 and 100 speed. It has an 4% chance to Crit-Kill a mech and never hits the target is supposed to (Wild).

The Green Manalishi can be obtained for only
330 Ferrite
290 Bioptics
19 Niodes
Or 5 for only 68 Niodes
